    Can anybody disagree?

OR, Floyd could really retire and we could enjoy the sport without him. In retiring now, Floyd would be a distant memory within a year. Retiring after beating Cotto, and he becomes a distant memory within 5 years. Retiring after unifying the belts, and Floyd's name will always be evoked when the history of the sport is discussed.

I seriously doubt if Floyd would retire now, people would forget about him.

          Sounds like a good thing

haha no just kidding, if I was a true floyd hater I would think this though. The fact is, I am less than a fan of floyd in spite of being a huge nationalist in boxing because he and his fans claim such high honors for good but not great work. I WANT him to unify, because then we can all say we followed the career of a legend. But nothing irks me more than the false praises he gets ad nauseum; its good to see that HBO wont buy it until he really proves himself to be top 3 all time.

I hope you're right about Floyd beating Cotto in '08. Seriously, I hope you're right. Then we may see history being made as he tries to unify. I'm all for that. Now that's shedding all previous criticism and becoming bulletproof, and most importantly, it would be good for the sport. Just making the attempt would be good for the sport.

I just don't think he'll get by Cotto. And, I have serious doubts that he'll ever fight Cotto. It's the difference between being a warrior and a being a businessman.

So he will beat the consensus number 1 ranked WW contender and than you want him to fight again. That is very unlikely to happen but from one fan to another, I hope it does. Please don't give me that load of crock about him being forgotten if he doesn't fight Cotto, you are seriously grasping at straws saying something like that.

Has anyone ever fully unified the welter divison before? I can't draw up any names here. I know there were unification bouts, but all 5 belts being unified?

i think napoles was the last true welter champ i believe

                    trinidad was a partial unification.

Yeah I knew Tito was. Mayorga, of all people, also unifiied with Forrest. But nobody has ever unified the ring, WBC, WBA, the WBO, and the IBF all at once have they?
