Did the GUINNESS catch up with Ricky?

Hatton was in the shape of his life. How in the hell was he fading by round 8?

He hadn't taken that many bodyshots.
He was fighting a fight he is accustomed to (inside mauling).
He was fighting a man his own size.
    His activity wasn't that high (40 punches/round).

Were you disappointed in Hatton's stamina?

    His stamina was great.

Maybe he amped himself up for the fight too much. Burning unneccesary energy in the clinch.

    Who knows.

He was getting broken down after round 6.

I don't think it was Hatton fading so much as Mayweather stepping up his level after 6. His stamina was fine.

He was charging repeatedly into Mayweather's punches.

It nearly knocked him down earlier in the fight, then eventually knocked him out.

It was a sense of hopelessness. A sense that his chances early in the fight were directly frustrated by Joe Cortez. A sense that he was unfairly penalized. A sense that he had to go for a desperate knockout to win. He was right. The judges showed obviously that he had to have a KO to win the fight.

What goes around, comes around. The spectre of Hatton's victory over Tszyu in Britain, where Hatton was allowed to do anything to win that fight but pull a knife, came around in haunting fashion. This is about the only positive spin I can put on how tonight's fight was governed. Cortez was on a mission to save American boxing from the Brits. And to the detriment of the sport, he fulfilled his duties well.

I stated before the fight that Hatton was losing his work capacity, but Joe Cortez didn't help him conserve energy either.

I've lost respect for anyone using the Joe Cortez excuse.

                    Take your blinkers off.

He did ref the fight a little unfairly.
