It's amazing that a mans instincts and reflexes can be that great. He didn't own Oscar, but he certainly clowned him.
I'm being hyperbolic again. It's a result of the fact that Oscar won that fight by about six points, and suddenly ten years later Mayweather fans root through for this stuff and mistake that clowning for fighting. Yeah his instincts were great, but you only 'own' a fighter by punching him. To me Oscar did better than Pernell in that clip.

I hope you don mean in terms of scoring, Oscar didnt show effective agression or clean punching, and Pernell showed superior defense.

Boy I hate the word own.

It's very rare in boxing to see a fighter evade several quick, sustained flurries like the ones Oscar was throwing at Whitaker in those clips. It's not so rare to see a fighter punch another fighter.

I think it was pretty, but obviously there was no owning in that particular fight...

You don't win in boxing by backing up and ducking. Yeah he slipped the punches but since he threw none back it was all for naught.

If I throw 10 punches at you, and you slip them all but don't hit me, did you beat me? Not in boxing.

Yes you are right. If the title said "here's a cool clip of Whitaker slipping some punches," that would be fine. I overreacted to the word 'own' is all.
