Calzaghe/Kessler does lowest ratings ever for HBO

Wow. So, to summarise, people are shocked that a fight held outside the US between two non-septics didn't get as many viewers as a usual world title fight between Americans? Really? Well, that's just a ****ing shock.
Mind you, I bet more watched it over there than have watched all of Popkins' fights combined in the UK.
I think the yanks are missing the fact that boxing works different over here. Boxing is on prime time television here where millions can and do watch them. Hell, even this ****e crop of heavyweights get millions of viewers. Ordinary got £1m. (approx $300m at the current exchange rate) for a few fights against bums on the BBC. The TV companies shell out money on the fights which they recoup on advertising revenue and subscriptions in the case of Sky and now Setanta.
And then there's the gate receipts. Tickets for Calzaghe or Hatton aint cheap. The cheapest for the Kessler bout was $80 and the most expensive was upwards of $1000. Gate receipts were massive for that fight. Millions of pounds and dollars massive.
Its different economics. Which is why Calzaghe earns more at home than Hopkins did for a PPV spectacular against P4P Winky. And considerably more than the derisory amount that he's being offered to go over there.
And yet nobody would dream of Hopkins taking a pay cut to come over here to fight. Strange that.

Live gate @M-Stadium in Cardiff (sold-out) expect to be over 7M pound, which is more than 14,000,000 $. This can match with 300k PPV-BUys. But there are also British TV-Right and HBO-Money. SO a fight in Wales would make more sense. If Hopkins wants to fight in the US GBP should make an offer which is more than Joe can get in the UK.
Nobody said that Joe is a big draw in the US, but in GB he is a much bigger draw than Hopkins will ever be in the US. Also the promo for this fight was very bady. There wasn't even a Countdown.
Also the numbers are telling how famous Joe was b4 the fight, not now.
