On July 14th of this year, Williams defeated Antonio Margarito for the WBO Welterweight boxing crown. For Margarito this fight was supposed to lead him into a fall (November to be exact) showdown with Puerto Rico’s Miguel Cotto. However, Paul Williams spoiled those plans with his ring generalship and high volume of punches. After the fight, Bob Arum (the promoter for both Margarito and Cotto) was quoted as saying to ringside press: “Williams is a nice kid outside of the ring but there is no way am putting him with Cotto”. From there, the wheels began to turn for a possible bout between Miguel Cotto and Sugar Shane Mosley.

Sounds like Arum wants no part of P-dub, they will have to fight eventually, it is only a matter of time.

For the people that dont seem to understand the thread..It isnt a question for you to answer...The question has really answer it self, Bob arum was saying he wouldnt put Cotto in there with P.williams even though his a nice kid outside of the ring...So i ask does been a nice personality has anything to do with what happens in the ring..The answer is obviously NO...Now i was only asking for opinions not bashing anyone.

Am sorry mate...The guy earlier just pissed me off by saying i start the tread to bash Hatton when i was just trying to understand Bob Arum's reason of saying he doesnt want a Cotto/Williams fight.

            Sorry once again.

Too much risk not enough reward except for a belt.

I think personality plays a role. It affects your mental state so I'm guessing it must affect your boxing ability. Take Tyson for example, if he was a "nice" guy like some other boxers, I don't think he would have that ferociousness in the ring like he did.

I agree with you but also there is one major factor in this equation:
" They only thing that wont fail for a fighter in the ring is his trainin."

but true psychological things effect fighters performance.

I don't think anyone is saying that someone will win because they are the "nice guy" but I see nothing wrong with picking the other to win out of hope based on the other making an ass out of himself.

Also there is a such thing as a person who is able to be a "nice guy" in normal everyday life out side of the ring yet be a pure monster inside of it.

Rocky Marciano and Jack Dempsey were "nice guys" outside of the ring but on the inside they always went for blood, threw elbows and did anything to win.

I say just watch the person based on his ring skill first but there is nothing wrong with not watching them based on their actions outside the ring either.

You couldn't pay me to watch a James Butler match unless it was against Mike Tyson and Mike has brass nucks on.
