Take Dan Henderson for example, he was an Olympian, maybe even a two-time olympian if my memory serves me right. Matt Hughes, Randy Couture, Lidell were all wrestling studs in college, so was Frank Trigg, all of 'em competed at the College level and a few at the Olympic level, which is pretty much the highest accolade you can get as a wrestler since there isn't a "pro-wrestling league".
MMA has opened up financial opportunities for college wrestlers, that wasn't there before. Unlike boxing and other sports who already had established organzations if they wanted to pursue a pro career.
Mark Kerr wrestled for the same college that former NY Jets WR Wayne Chrebet came from and Mark Coleman was a top wrestler from Ohio State University . Brandon Vera went to Old Dominion Unviversity but didn't finish.
College wrestling is its equivalent to Amateur boxing!!
The reason you have no former math teachers as boxers is because you'll likely find more ex-convicts that became boxers, or got convicted while being a boxer, or drag queens(lmao).
