  • Jeff Lacy: "MMA is a Fad, Not a Sport"

In a recent conference with the media, former super middleweight champion Jeff Lacy (22-1, 17KOs) gave his thoughts on Mixed Martial Arts, primarily the UFC, and whether or not the sport of boxing has stepped up to compete with the UFC as a sport. [details]

A fad? UFC has been popular since 1993...UFC 5 sold 250K PPVs...how is that a fad?

I think he's gettin a fad confused with the recent news coverage.

If it's so much a fad then why are other org. selling out arenas and venues with almost no promotion other than msg boards....if it's a fad then wouldn't the UFC be the only successful MMA org?

Jeff Lacy is mad cuz he'd get submitted quick.

I hope everyone just ignores this thread cuz if not, then it'll turn into 10 pages of MMA bashing which not even Sherdog bashes boxing.

watching two men groping each other and roll about like a couple arse-bandits is not my idea of a sport.
there's a fad you would'nt want to get involved with

Because people are scared of the ufc, they think if they call it gay and 2 guys hugging then it will just go away, but really, if really when they are just lying "hugging" like gays that can 1- knock someone out, 2 tap someone out in a mater of seconds, when guys like John Ruiz gets his death like hug on you, thats you in a position where your not goin anywhere

They have Dana White for that. I will say that it looks a bit weak that a guy like Kimbo, who a year ago was fighting in backyards on youtube, is now a big name in MMA and knocking people out.

If Kimbo tried to enter boxing, boxing fans would not only laugh but he would have been knocked out by the first fighter with any decent skill.

He'd obviously lose against top competition, he isn't ready for it yet.

Please tell me why you think Kimbo would get KOed if he trained for a very long time in just boxing.....you're way too biased.
He said Kimbo was popular BECAUSE of the street fights. Now he is in MMA beating guys, a legitimate street fighter beating up MMA guys.
