I Believe there are oppertunities to land clean on cotto, but shane aint all roses either when it comes to defence, if cotto can jab him and work the body he deffo has a chance, cos his body shots are vicious.

I just watched 1on1 with Mosley on The Fight Network and he even said that he was use to fighting lightweights where he could tuck his chin and fight. He said when he stepped in with 6foot Forrest he couldnt tuck it the same, he had to look up, Forrest landed the right hand and the rest is history.

Mosley has some long Orang Uta arms, he is listed at 74" while Cotto has 67"
These statistics are not always right, but they show an indicator.

Good thread, and yes he whas trouble with taller guys. However, he was the naturally SMALLER guy in the fights with Forrest, Wright and De La Hoya (especially the second fight as Oscar moved up in a better fashion.)

That's why it's hard to see Cotto doing something that Mosley hasn't dealt with.

A couple of observations on this:

--I agree with the basis of this post. Mosley isn't facing a bigger guy with distinct reach advantages that can control fights with a jab like Winky and Forrest. He lost four times to these two guys, they are his only losses in his career, and they beat him by boxing and using those natural advantages. Here, he has a guy who fights almost in a polar opposite style and has no size advantage.

--However, it's not like Mosley has only been in tough fights with those 2 guys and Oscar. He was no world beater vs. Raul Marquez, David Estrada or Jose Luis Cruz.

Also, the first Vargas fight, he failed to take control of the fight and it was very competitive in alot of peoples' minds. Cotto is worlds beyond all these guys at those times and he will make the aging Mosley fight three minutes a round, something he didn't have to do AT ALL in his last two big wins over Vargas and Collazo.

            _______________________

To me, that's why this fight is a straight up pick 'em. Part of me thinks Mosley can dominate with his speed and boxing skills, but another part of me thinks he cannot hold up under the pressure Cotto will bring, and those great body shots.

It is going to be a great fight.

those estrada/marquez fights were boring as hell, however since mosley has been away from john david jackson and back with his dad, he has been looking far better and far more motivated, too bad his wife is the most annoying person on this entire globe.

Actually Mosley has a 72" reach and for his height, that is an exceptional range

The more this fight edges closer, the more confident I get that Shane is going to win. Shane is going to bust up Cotto to the head and drop him hard a la Vargas with a nice left hook. Sayonara Cotto!!!!

Yup, Mosley only struggles against taller guys or guys with a significant reach advantage. I think that's common knowledge, and Cotto doesn't have the edge over Mosley. Which means Mosley should be fully on par and we should all be delighted when the opening bell rings this Saturday night.
