I don't know how I would consider that matchup.. I would have to consider it. But I do know it wouldn't be a foregone conclusion in my mind. There's a very good chance Calzaghe would beat Wright in similiar fashion to the way Hopkins did it. Definately. Size would be a problem too, I agree.

be prepared to see hopkins throw that right hand while looking at the floor to counter JC's hooks.. boring fight, i would just want to see the outcome..
id like JC to fight taylor, bute, dawson and hopkins.. it sucks that hes uppin the compitition after all these years.. at least hes doing itComment

well I'm thinking its because he defeated Winky Wright by a couple rounds, something Jermaine didn't do which of course was a draw....and I believe if Taylor ever fought B-hop again, hopkins would know taylor too well to beat him...Comment

Winky loses although he would look better against Joe then Hopkinsand here is why:
While winky is an outstanding fighter his main specialty is his biggest weakness, fighting swarming lefties who punch from all angles, all ranges and with all possible(awkward and not punches) is very hard for a not veyr mobile stand up counter puncher . He is gonna have his moments obviously, but his lack of power won't be able to keep Calzaghe off of Winkster. And Winky will be able to have an upper hand in exchanges as well as being able to control the distance with his superior footwork. As I said, Winky is gonna have his moments and plenty of them with good counters but the majority of the punches(in the fight) will be landed on HIM.
Now, as to Hopkins, the problem with Hopkins(just like with many other boxing geniouses) is that he does not like to fight at his opponents pace. He is very good at giving angles, landing a punch or two and then withdrawing. That is NOT the way to fight Calzaghe. Hopkins's best chances of beating Joe is fighting dirty and out of clinch(a la Robert Reid) but I just don't see him do enough to grant him a win.Comment

I don't agree with that last statement. If he did, he wouldn't have lost to Jermain Taylor - ever. Although, I don't think he did. And yes, I've been watching him for a while - I do not see him being able to outthink Joe like has so many others simply because he won't be given the amount of time to operate that others did - like Tarver.
Something about the exploding standoffs, arcing haymakers, start and stop action, and various other factors make the Jones and Taylor fights comparable in what it took to nullify Hopkins. Raw athleticism.
He stopped punching against that. ^
Does he stop punching against a Calzaghe?.. I wouldn't think so.Comment

WBC/WBA/WBO super middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe (44-0, 32 KOs) is beating the drums for a fight with recognized light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins (48-4-1, 32 KOs). Calzaghe and his promoter Frank Warren, said they are willing to make the fight in America or even Hopkins' backyard of Philadelphia - if the money is right. [details]Comment

hopkins will come with a dirty fight plan and he'll implement it as best he can. i think theres a lot of room for x-factors in this fight regarding cuts and fouls. bhop could win but i don't see any way for him to win without it being ugly. and joe could win the same way roy jones won over a decade ago. just blitzing bernard with combos but not actually hurting him or putting him in any trouble.
either joe by a wide decision or bernard by a razor sharp one after an ugly fightComment

Calzaghe would be seen as a fraud if he lost to Hopkins and Hopkins would be seen as a demi god for beating Calzaghe at this stage of his career along with Dela Hoya ,Tito ect
yet if Joe Wins bhop is old ready for retirement etc he would have beaten Joe in his prime any excuse u can think of would come outComment
