****...Cotto's defense isn't perfect. Mosley has never been KO'd and I've never seen him hurt his bad as Cotto. Miguel's been rocked many of times by guys who aren't big punchers. How will Cotto deal with Mosley's fast hands and great stamina?
How does Cotto expect to beat Mosley with his terrible defense ?

Yeah, just looking at a few minutes of that clip..
Miguel Cotto has a very bad habit of running in and lunging with his shots. It's the basis and foundation of most everything he does..
You're only going to get soo far with that.

That's what WLAD referred to. WATCH THE CLIP, DUDE.No, he didn't. What you saw was a clash of knees with Paulie landing a punch while Cotto was off balance. Even George Foreman and the other broadcasters said it was nothing but a balance issue after seeing the replay. This is the thing about Cotto. Since he got so badly hurt by Corley, any questionable movement after a punch, and people are quick to assume he's hurt like what's happening here and what happened in the Judah fight.
Malignaggi STAGGERS Cotto and Miguel does the baby kicking thing he does when he gets hurt 28 seconds into the clip.
THAT'S NOT WHAT I WAS REFERRING TO!!!

I think it's as bad as you say it is OBJECTIVELY speaking.
But Cotto is an offensive fighter predominately and part of what makes him succesful is the inherent risk involved in breaking certain rules.
Most people don't realize the subtle complexity of what Cotto does. He's a very unconventional fighter. Miguel knowingly and deliberately foresakes better defense for offensive opportunity's.. But I agree he's going to pay a TERRIBLE price for trying to play that **** this far up in class. Trying to run guys over is like button mashing in a video game.. It can only get you so far.Comment

Cotto does not have god awful defense. He's forced to lunge in because he's only 5'7 with short arms. Cotto actually has good defense. Every time he gets hurt is when he's coming in to punch.
You have to sacrifice something if you are going to fight with that style.Last edited by -Antonio-; 10-30-2007, 10:42 PM.Comment

That was not a "staggered" fighter by any means. He was hit, and he held on, that was the extent of it. Many people are so quick to judge any movement that cotto makes after recieving a punch, without considering that it might be a normal reaction to a punch.Comment

The fact that you compare him to LaMotta means you are just spewing nonsense.Miguel Cotto has god awful defense and he likes to block punches with his face. We all know Cotto has a big heart, but he is very chinny. Miguel Cotto is like a reincarnation of Jake LaMotta with an average chin and that's not a good thing. Malignaggi(a lesser opponent than Mosley) was able to land pillow punch combinations at will and he even staggered Cotto. Can you imagine what's going to happen when a hard puncher like Mosley lands combinations at will on Cotto. I like Cotto, but with his Jake LaMotta type style and terrible defense he is gonna get exposed badly and Shane Mosley is the guy to expose him. The Puerto Rican fans at MSG are gonna be in for a big surprise, but I really won't be surprised at all.Comment

That's not even what I was reffering to, I forget what round it was but Cotto carelessly ran into a punch and he staggered backwards, he did recover though. I will try to find the round and post the video.Comment
