De La Hoya only lost to P4P #1 fighters

he beat some very good fighters in addition to the cab drivers though. he beats like a who's who of top 130, 135, and 140 lb fighters from 84 to the early 90s.

his record is padded to an extent, but nearly everyone's is.

not everyone is gonna be like tszyu and face tough fighters right out the gate.

he fought cap drivers, yes.. but he faced great fighters of his era and NO ONE gives him credit for it... instead they mention that he beat cab drivers and never mention Taylor, Randall, Whitaker, Camacho, La Porte, Mayweather, Rosario, etc.. the man deserves respect and should not be called a bum beater...

simply haters call him that, so **** them too.

i cant belive anyone here is criticizing the living legend of julio cesar chavez. you should be ashamed of yoruselves. even the professional writers have him as one of the top 5 all time greatest fighters. and he had some great wins unlike the chicken dlh. chavez was a true warrior who actually beat the best. dlh just lost to the best. and when was sturm #1 p4p???

honestly, de la hoya's controversial decisions are overhyped by the fact that he was always hated for being a pretty boy...

if pernell whitaker wasnt named pernell whitaker, most people would hate how he fought de la hoya and be glad de la hoya got the nod(besides de la hoya clearly won more rounds...)....if de la hoya wasnt so hated, he would get praised for saving the quartey fight in the last round...instead, people look for every possible round to give to quartey... that fight was 114-113 either way...i lean towards de la hoya...

the sturm match, granted i can easily see sturm winning, but iits not as bad as people like to say it was....for the first 5 rounds, de la hoya was outworking the **** out of sturm...and finished strong enough to grant him either a close loss, a draw or a close win....not the schooling people like to say he got...

in fact his 2 controversial losses were even clearer wins for him than the quartey fight...how can you lose when you won at least 8 of the first 9 rounds??... how could the 3 judges give Mosley the last 5 rounds!! of the second de la hoya fight??????

Whitaker and Quartey are not controversial, they're somewhat close, the latter closer. Each time ODLH won more rounds, in the Whitaker fight by several rounds, Quartey maybe 7-5 with one extra kd is a 3 point decision. If you give every round possible to Quartey, you give him 6 and he still losses.

Sturm fight was hard to judge. Oscar's punches were mostly blocked, Sturm didn't do enough to get the decision though.

The controversial decisions are Trinidad and Mosley 2, both went against him.

Nah all the real boxing fans love JCC. He's a legendary fighter, maybe a notch below Whitaker and DLH, but still a legend.

I disagree. By the logic you used to defend the Sturm decision, Oscar wins that fight. Most of mayweather's punches were blocked, and mayweather didnt do enough to win the fight.

Everyone who beat him was either p4p #1 at the time or became so after beating him.* This is the guy who has made all the big fights, and only the big fights, since some of you were still having your asses wiped by mommy.

Let me remind you of something, De La Hoya was nearly unbeatable at 135 and 140, and still an atg at 147. He was MUCH better at those weights than Pacquaio, Barrera, Marquez, Morales, etc. have been at any weights. Study up before you post kids. These are all fighters who have had exciting battles with each other, but none were even close to as dominant as de La Hoya was.
