Sometimes it's not the fighters fault that they can't unify.

Look at Wladimir Klitschko. The boy is dieing to unify but can't because of boxing politics. He is the favorite to beat any of the current crop of heavyweights.

What does that have to do with the fact that he only defended his undisputed title six times, man.

YOu need to read between the lines. What I'm saying is it took him years to unify all the belts. By the time he unified he was already in his late 30's.

By the time he fought Taylor he was already 40 years old and had trouble making weight. His original plan was to beat Taylor and move up to light-heavyweight to fight Tarver or Jones and retire.

Because he lost to Taylor he took another 160lb fight to try to avenge his loss. After he moved up like he originally planed. He has been running extra miles in his career to make the 160lb limit and it was hard and time to move up.

What was he supposed to do, defend his title another 20 times after he defeated Tito? He would have to fight until age 50 to accomplish that.

He DID NOT MAKE “20” DEFENSES. He made SIX successful defenses.

After becoming the undisputed champion he only made six defenses. The rest were meaningless alphabet defenses. He DID NOT break Monzon’s record. Monzon made 14 UNDISPUTED defenses. Hagler made 12 UNDISPUTED defenses. Joe Louis made 25 UNDISPUTED defenses.

He's barely in my top 10 MW's of all time. Roudning out at about number 8.

            What say you guys?
I think what Hopkins did in his prime was impressive but he's actually diminished his legacy with all these 40 year old + fights. They're terrible fights, and with the exception of the Oscar body shot knockout, it makes you wonder why anybody should be watching. I figure Hopkins last major prime fight to have been against Trinidad, which was an impressive fight. IMO

Ok insults now. I explained to you why he could't have made anymore title defenses then he did.......FINE. Take it how you want it.

It's a shame it only gets 2 pages worth. Meanwhile I can start a Mayweather - Hatton bait thread and get 11 pages worth.

Seems most of the members of the board have a different priority here then to talk boxing.

I don't care what anyone says Hopkins is a Hall of Famer, and there were more belts in Hopkins time than back in the day.
