you make no sense yo with 5 ****ing seconds left? you telling me you agree with the ref stopping a fight where a fighter was clearly winning ALL the way, put on the performance of his life, so good of a performance that his life in and out of the was severely affected by it, you trying to tell me after letting him fight all the way down to literally the last 5 seconds of the fight (maybe even less seconds) that it's okay to stop him? so close to the end that by the time Steele would have backed up and Chavez came in to hit him the fight would have been over by 5 seconds, you actually support that decision? there was nothing to evaluate, THE FIGHT WAS OVER! what was he saving him from? it wasn't in the bag it was already out the bag and in his hands Richard Steele just snatched it, walked over to Chavez's corner and gave it to him instead (metaphorically speaking for all you smart asses out there), how you can support such disgrace to the sport is beyond me.. he ruined the mans career that night, he is a piece of ****, he wasn't looking out for no one, there wasn't even enough time for Chavez to land another punch so where is all that "good referee" bull**** at? how can you be saving him from more damage when there was no more damage coming at him, the fight was over.. 100

Steel made the wrong decision.
There was 2 seconds left, and Chavez was all the way across the ring. The fight was over.
Taylor won that fight when he got up from the knockdown.
It was such a great fight, the fight was over, Taylor deserved better. He deserved the 2 extra seconds that night.
And I just don't buy the "Richard was just protecting the fighter." argument. Taylor didn't need protection, Chavez was at the opposite end of the ring with 2 seconds to go, there wasn't even enough time for another punch to be thrown, by either man. The fight was over, plain and simple.Last edited by deliveryman; 10-25-2007, 09:01 PM.Comment

I wish there had been an immediate rematch. There would be so much less controversy.
but Taylor moved to Welterweight. Ive heard Chavez wanted a rematch really really badly, the HBO crew said so in one of his fights. But I dont know
and guys, the rules state that if a fighter does not respond within the 10 seconds of the knockdown, he loses the fight. Its like if someone got up from a knockdown, but 1 second too late, and there is one second left in the fight. he still loses.
Im not saying it was the best call for the situation...but it was perfectly legitimate, according to the rules.
It really doesnt matter though. What matters is the fight itself. And it was an outstanding fight too, one of my favorites.Last edited by Steak; 10-25-2007, 09:05 PM.Comment

The rule for a TKO states, that it is completely up to the referee's discretion, or that of a ringside physician. But no where does it state such technicalities such as: a fighter must respond and answer referee's questions or he automatically loses.Comment

You damn right i support it, because the fight wasnt over there was still time left. Thats like saying a baseball team is winning 3-0 the whole game and then the other team hits a grandslam with two outs in the ninth to win it, but we shouldnt count it because the other team was playing the game of their lives and were winning untill the last out. I dont care how well Taylor performed because bottomline he didnt perform for the whole twelve rounds and got knocked out. Richard Steele wasnt a judge, hes not supposed to know who is winning, he just does his job for the FULL fight. Richard Steele has said that Meldrick was taking hard hard shots the whole fight, so the result was cumalitive, not some flash knockdown, Meldrick was out of it, once again HE DIDNT RESPOND, its not Steele's job to say, "well he didnt respond but im sure Chavez wont hit him in these last few seconds so Im going to let it go on since he performed so well all night", get real.Comment

This fight was seriously closer than most made it out to be now or at the time. Taylor was busier but he was getting tagged by flush brutal shots all night, he was actually looking in rough shape at the end of the 11th. Taylor was also clinging tightly to the ropes for support as in he wasn't really up on his own two feet.Comment
