i first thought it was a great mistake, but then analizing when taylor stood up it was completly taylors fault for not answering the referee. he asked him twice and the guy didn´t answer. if he would just say something or at least nod im sure he wouldn´t have stop it.
so in his judgement because he wasn´t responding to his answers in any way, he decided that he couldn´t continue to fight

I agree with this. Richard didn't know that the time was. For all he knew the fight could have had another 30 seconds to go.

some of the reasons refs stop fights is because:
        1. the fighter is taking too much punishment.
        2. the fighter is not intelligently defending himself.
        3. the fighter is injured in such a way that it greatly hinders his ability to continue the fight.
        4. the fighter quits.
        5. the fighter is unresponsive to the ref's questions or commands.

the only one that applies is the 5th one and taylor didnt respond because lou duva (his trainer) jumped on the ring apron and started shouting at the ref and distracted taylor from responding.

meldrick taylor did not need to be protected any longer. there was 2 seconds left in the fight, chavez would not have even had the time to reach taylor to land another punch. taylor was not in any sort of danger if the fight was not stopped.

it was a horrible stoppage. i think steele saw that taylor wasnt responding and was taking a lot of punishment and stopped the fight but im sure he just forgot that it was the last round of the fight.

that is NOT true, a complete inaccurate comment, the 10 second warning went off already and the referee as well as the fighters as well as the people knew there were less than 10 seconds left

It is not Steele's job to know how much time is left in the round. He is not the ****ing time keeper. If the knockdown was closer to the beggining of the round then it could have been like Chavez-Johnson. I seriously think that JCC would have killed him.

THE MAN HAD HIS EYES SWOLLEN SHUT AND WAS ASKED TWICE "ARE YOU ALRIGHT, DO YOU WANT TO CONTINUE" INSTEAD OF RESPODING HE LOOKED OVER AT DUVA, WHOM STEELE DID NOT SEE CLIMB UP ONTO THE RING APRON. FOR ALL RICHARD KNEW, MELDRICK DIDN'T KNOW WHAT PLANET HE WAS ON.

            Steele made the right desicion.

He could talk perfectly fine after he was robbed. Why do I think everyone who feels this was a just decision is mexican...

Youre serious? This is probably why you dont agree with the stoppage, because you were missing what was happening the whole fight. Yes Taylor was landing pitty pat great combonations but Chavez was landing flush, trading a combo for a punch knowing it would pay dividends which it did, you obviously were just watching the flashy combos and missed what was really going on....the analogy is its not over untill its over, if there is 1 second left the fight is still not over, so crying that there was only one second left is not a valid argument, because its not his job to secure a win for a fighter that is not responding.

Why doesn't anyone ever talk about the rematch. Okay it was a controversial fight. But what about the rematch? At least Chavez gave him one.

no he didn't.. continue what? the fight was over, there was nothing to call, he stopped it at a point where if he would have backed up Chavez wouldn't have had time to come and punch him again, he asked Taylor "do you wish to continue" and I wish I could ask him "continue what?", he KNEW 100% that there were less than 10 seconds in the fight, he knew enough of those 10 seconds passed by enough so that any second the bell would go off.. that prick wanted to pass it off like a good stoppage and it wasn't, you know what was a good stoppage? Mayweather-Gatti, that was a good clear stoppage and even Taylor-Pavlik granted that taylor made no attempt to stand up, maybe because he was just slumped for a second and the referee just crowded him but you can make the argument for Smoger there but Taylor-Chavez? dogz hell no..

Taylor wasn't out of it infact he was winning pretty clearly if you ask me, they were BOTH all ****ed up and Taylor was getting the best of it, if it were really do to accumilation and he was truly worried about Taylor then why didn't he stop it earlier within a Chavez flurry? why did he wait to the last 10 seconds to suddenly "care" for the fighter's health? why couldn't he "save him" from the accumilation earlier? bottomline it's a bull**** excuse to cover up what we will never know, something deeper than the surface I don't care what he says, I plain and simple don't believe him, he should have lost his license after that call, with him knowing that there were only seconds left on the clock and he would recieve NO MORE punches he should have just stood him up, backed up and let the round finish, I GUARANTEE you Taylor wouldn't have gotten hit again if Steele just backed up and let him be, I can't say let him continue because what was he continuing? the fight was over so what was he going to endure, he already finished the fight..

instead of helping him what he made him do was go threw a war in which he won in vain, he crumbled up and threw away his hard effort and tried to cover his own piece of **** ass talking that referee **** knowing damn well he was wrong, that ******* is probably still spending the money he was paid for that ****, I don't doubt people like Don King, Judges and Referees were crooked back then and I don't doubt this slime got a pay day for that. if he really "cared" for Taylor he wouldn't have snatched the biggest accomplishment of his life away from him, he wouldn't have waited until all but 2 seconds out of 12 rounds to stop this man, he didn't give 2 ****s about Taylor.. clearly, how can I say I care about you and I let you fight a war, a war that we all know you won, then I come in all the way at the end of the war right when it's about to end and then stop you and call you the loser, that ain't care yo you know what that ain't? it ain't fair.. 100

it's not that yo you missing my whole point, Taylor got up, Taylor looked over to his trainer and completely showed signs of being aware, he was in NO condition to stop it and for your information I knew what was going on the whole fight and that was Taylor winning, Rocky Marciano had his nose sticking out of his face and he was allowed to continue and you mean to tell me Taylor couldn't.. don't get me wrong I understand your logic but Steele wouldn't have been securing **** it was Taylor who secured his win because he did more than enough to win it, by Steele stopping the fight he in turn robbed Taylor, he was on his feet and responding, in the middle of a war you can't expect him to be like "yes, Mr. Steele I am perfectly fine to continue combating", he was ready to get his win, he looked over to his trainer and Steele just stopped it, he didn't give him a good enough chance knowing the fight was nearly over, it was the worse stoppage that I could possibly think of till this day. I just can't explain to myself how it was stopped, it doesn't make sense because he says it's his job to look after the fighter but he ends up ****ing him over because what was he looking out for him with? Chavez wasn't gonna land another punch and he knew that, if he would have kept talking a little bit the bell would have rung in the middle of his words that how finished that fight was.. why did he stop it?
