Th ref did his job and wasnt concerned with how long was left in the fight. Thats great reffereeing IMO.

It didnt matter that there were 2 seconds left. Even if there were 3 rounds to go the fight should have been stopped.

Taylor fought brilliantly but was TKO'd. All credit to Chavez.

there's a lot worse ref jobs than steele on this night, even if you think he made a bad choice.

That's the story we heard. You don't know though. Taylor could have lost that fight and sought comfort in hard drugs. That's how bad that reffing decision was. Here he had beaten one of the true greats and it was taken away in the last 10 friggin seconds! My god, he was at least entitled to an 8 count! Horrible reffing job, IMO.

i never want to watch that fight again. steele could have talk to taylor for 5 more seconds and taylor would have won a split decision. but everyone knows that steele is connected to Don king.

no, lou duva said steele had acted in king's favor in the past. as duva proved later in that hbo special, he is a liar.

                  steele stopped tyson-ruddock I a year after chavez-taylor 1.

when else did steele act in favor of king's fighters?

don't forget, chavez's first official loss came on pts, with steele's deductions against chavez being the difference.

Very Very bad choice, with only seconds left on the clock and Taylor still in the fight he had no reason to step in and stop it, whatever happened to Taylor that made him the way he is happened over the ACCUMILATION of the beatings and punishment he's recieved but it doesn't justify THAT NIGHT, on that night Meldrick Taylor destroyed Chavez, he completely destroyed him, Chavez did nothing to earn a victory, sure he punched him and sure he's a warrior, sure he was tough and rugged but that night belonged to Taylor regardless, he worked too hard to stay up on his feet at that point in the fight, with only really like 10 seconds left in the whole fight he should have been given a chance to go to the cards, I have always felt like Taylor was robbed and now everytime I think of Chavez I say to myself you may be great and tough but on that night, against that opponent you lost and the fight was given to you..

Richard Steele waited for the last few seconds to stop a fight he let go on over the course of the whole 12 rounds, what? suddenly Chavez caught Taylor with something he hadn't already hit him with in the fight until that point? that call was complete and utter bull**** just like Tony Perez who disqualified Roy Jones Jr against Griffith when Roy clearly was caught in the moment and didn't see Griffith on the floor, there has to be a line you draw where you say to yourself "okay, this guy didn't mean it" and you let it ride but those 2 imbeciles tampered with both those HOF fighters legacies and it wasn't right.. 100
