However, I take it he's been hurt other times and takes damage due to his pressure style. It happened in the Torres fight and the Corley fight, Zab did it, too in the first round but didn't hurt Cotto NOWHERE near in comparison to Corley, or even Torres which knocked Cotto down AND at one point had him against the ropes where one good lunging left hook would've been all it took to be the start of a flurry and a TKO loss for him.

Yes, Cotto's been known for low-blows. I look at this at a non-biased fashion. I've seen the part where Cotto strikes Judah low several times. The first blow looks unintentional, however since Cotto was a bit hurt it's very easy to point to the fact that he did it to give himself some time to recompose. However, the second low-blow dealt in round 3 looked very intentional. People can say that this tends to happen a lot when people attack the body a lot, but the second one seemed so blatantly obvious it's cringe-worthy to watch it when they replay in slow-mo.

Nobody except Cotto knows if he did it on purpose, but that's my take on that.

Interesting fact that Addison mentioned on the Malignaggi bit (Foreman mentioning the multiple low blows), I'll try to look that up on youtube.

BTW, Addison: Might I inquire as to which part of the fight specifically did the HBO team comment on the back-punching (what round)? I still have the fight on my DirecTV hard-drive and would like to hear this myself.
Good post. I'm listening to to fight right now. I'll put up the youtube vid and the specific moment in the fight where this is said.

Here is the quote I already posted on the forum:

"Urkal had enough," Wegner said, who was upset by Cotto's borderline kidney shots. "I wasn't going to let him take any more punches to the back. They weren't body shots. He was getting hit in the back. It was wrong."
Urkal was also bothered by a biceps injury suffered from repeated blows to his arm in the fourth or fifth round.
The comments in the Malignaggi fight came somewhere in the last third or quarter I'm guessing. That commentary is on youtube as well.

      no.

cotto is going to win and pick his spots. he will be aggressive when he needs to and conservative when he needs to. mosley will try to hold off cotto's attacks and clinch, but he will lose. he is not 29 or 30 anymore and cotto will be too much for mosley.

        OK........

But you're saying WHEN he's being aggressive that will serve him, right?

Addison you made this thread without actually mentioning how Cotto is going to suffer as a result of his aggression against Shane. Maybe I missed where you tactically broke this down...

So far I have seen a bunch of the same that I always see. Key words of this thread so far have been low blow, dirty, **** you and nut hugger. How is this different from any other garbage thread around?

Oh wait I'm here. That's the first difference. Thread is instantly 1000x better. I'm going to attempt to give you what you want.

We're going to assume that both guys are at their best, fighting smart fights on both ends. Cotto isn't recklessly aggressive when he is fighting smart. He won't have a smaller man in front of him so I doubt he'll look three sheets to the wind. When he struggled with guys like Torres and Corley, he hurt them early, smelled blood, and El Cotto Loco took over. He thought he could steam roll them and he was wrong. He was caught in both instances while punching in combination or trying to initiate contact. Corley timed him and Torres' faster hands saw him landing his own power shots before Miguel could get off. Again, he was fighting a bad fight.

I think Cotto is going to use a bit more of a subtle approach (eh, as far as that goes for Miguel). I think he'll stalk Mosley, coming in behind punches in order to land anything he can on Mosley before Shane gets off with his own arsenal. I like how Cotto mixed in uppercuts and punches from different angles in his fight with Judah. He'll have to use a variety of looping punches after getting to Shane's body to do damage up top. I like the short right hand inside here for Cotto.

I saw you say somewhere in here that Cotto has a low fighting IQ because all he can do "bullrush in and throw to the body when his guy stops moving". How does a particular method of fighting *THAT WORKS* translate to having a low IQ in your mind? How does one follow the other? He would be unintelligent to do anything else but what works for him. You ever see the dumb **** fighter in the ring that tries to get cute and act like they are something they aren't? Yeah, not so much Cotto.

You also said something about not being able to pressure a puncher. How ****ing wrong is that? Wawaweewa...

You happen to watch Hatton/Tszyu? Pryor/Arguello? Barkley/Hearns? I could ****ing go on all day. Miguel can pressure Mosley and he will pressure him...to his benefit too.

Neither Cotto nor Mosley will do well in this fight if they try to do some crazy **** to win. I expect both guys to give one hell of a performance. Although it matters who wins, both guys are great fighters and they are both top, top fighters at their weight regardless.

You already know what it is. Miguelito "El Cotto Loco" Lowblowtto for oldgringo.

Eh, but what can you do, I am backing Cotto and I know he will win, just like I know Hatton will win. This fall is just the time of upsets, you know. I can literally smell it in the air.
You seem like a Cotto supporter.. lol.. Care for a little friendly e-wager?
Id' bet you with Mayweather over Hatton, too.
