Team Ibragimov should make the Thompson fight as soon as possible; get the mandatory behind them and then pursue the bigger and better fish in the division….

I am sure that if Ibragimov made a fight with Wlad, they could strike a deal with the WBO that the winner of the fight will face Thompson next, guaranteed. I'll bet that Wlad can cough up enough cash to pay Thompson more than he made in his last 3 fights to wait for another 6 months.

That’s a good point Boxing2005, pay Thompson to step aside and guarantee him shot at the winner. However, Thompson’s people may not like the prospect of facing Klitshcko if he beat Ibragimov, and I’m not sure that I would blame them…

Best case scenario would be for Klitschko to face Chagaev early next year and then, providing he wins, face the winner of the IBF unification tourni; after that he can face the winner of Liakhovich-Valuev…

That sounds like a pretty good plan.

You know, either way would work for me and majority of the fans. I truly hope they stop ****ing around and set up some good fights, without pull-outs, injuries, etc. I'm going to quote Anorak here and say that I haven't seen a good HW fight this year yet. McCline vs. Peter was OK but the whole excitement lasted for 2 rounds unfortunately.

Yeah, 2007 has been quite a boring year for hw fights; I enjoyed Toney-Peter II in January but haven’t really seen anything exciting since then. Thankfully, boxing has such good middle, welter, light, and even bantam weight fighters/fights that they’ve really carried the sport this year…

Having said all that, the potential hw matchups in 2008 should yield at least a couple good ‘barn burners’ for hw fans. Klitschko vs. Chagaev, Liakhovich, Ruiz, Valuev, Ibragimov, Povetkin, or Tua would do it for me; just no more Ray Austins…

The purpose of the elimination tournament is to build up Chambers and/or Povetkin as contenders and to give Wlad time as he's had two mandatories this year. He should have two voluntary defenses in the meantime. At that point one of those kisd should have two solid victories in his pocket.

Who do you favor in a Chambers/Povetkin match-up?
