I agree. Especially by putting the spotlight on the Phillipino vs Mexican rivalry. I dont care who makes what. Its not my concern. Im only interested in good matchups, and so far, GBP has been coming through.

If you already had your mind made up whether GBP is really good for boxing, then why even put it in the form of a question? Oh i forgot, its Dios "aka" anti everything that is not Floyd.

Fact of the matter is, most of the guys NOT in big fights, wouldn't be in big fights if promoted by other promoters either. Atleast with Golden Boy, because they're a younger company, they have a chance to grow. Try making a man for yourself on the Don King show, you'll be in the 16th fight that night. Or, if you're black or Mexican.. try making it on a Bob Arum card, you know.. when he hopes most of the fans are white for Pavlik or Puerto Rican for Miguel Cotto. You'll gain 7 fans that night. 70 more undercards, and you'll have enough fans to fill one tenth of a small arena. Golden Boy TRIED to make Maruqez get a PPV, you can't fault them for the better name HAVING to pull out. That's boxing. They were TRYING to give OUMA more exposure in letting him beat MORA on a big stage, and get SOME of those Contender fans, it didn't happen. If Guzman gets passed Soto, you think they wont eventually push for a Guzman-Pacquiao? Of course, they'll hope for Maruqez-Pacquaio II first, but.. so would most fans. MOST. They're way better than the Don Kings, and the Bob Arums, they just need time. As far as promotions go, they're very young.

Another thing, they actually did give Ouma a long shot at becoming the Middleweight champion. He lost. Most expected him to. Fact is, if a fighter doesn't win, the company can't help that, either.

Is that like saying "you know, that's a good point. Most of the good fights I saw were not actually GBP fights".

              Is that what you meant?

Because Don King essentially OWNS the heavyweight division, and he hasn't done **** with it.

                  deevel,

I'm going to tee something up to you and I want you to think it through objectively and without emotion.

Somebody asks a question. They have an opinion, but they are not sure, so they try to solicit and collect other opinions and differing viewpoints . They want to be sure that they are making informed decisions/judgments.

Joe: I'm thinking about buying a Camry, what do you think?
Bill: Well, I like the Accord better. it gets better gas mileage.
Joe: Cool... but they are changing the body style of the Accord next year.
Bill: Yeah. That's a good point. You might want to get the Camry.

See? Reasoned discussion between two parties making judgments together based on shared information.

Out of that list only one other name stands out and that is Winky. The average Joe doesn't know anyone else.
Part of what I was thinking is that all of the starpower and appeal in this sport lies with guys who are 30+ and a coupla years/fights from retrirement.

Oscar is semi-retired. hop fights once a year. trinidad is still a name and fights every two years. Floyd will fight 2-3 more times. Shane is 36- we gotta be realistic, Winky is aging, and not that big of a draw. Barrera and Morales were the big Mexican names, and they are now retired.

Hatton is close to 30 and this is his first PPV. Miguel Cotto hasn't hit ppv star status yet.

What I had EXPECTED from GBP was some Boxing After Dark-type cards. Kinda like the show we got sat night with the two Diazes.

                      Librado Andrade
                      ETC.

But who appears to be profiting? Oscar, Nard, Shane, and MAB. All GBP principals. All four have had heavily promoted PPV's over the past few months (Shane is next month).

I do not have details about the economics, but it appears that the remainding roster has not gotten into big fights (Marquez-Juarez is on Showtime's 1st saturday show).

GBP kinda ****ed up the Pacquiao situation with a shady $500k-in-a-briefcase-in-the-back-of-a-limo deal. I don't even know what the hell is going on with Ouma's career. AND WHAT IS UP WITH JOEL CASAMAYOR?

Oscar promised a different way of doing business, and I don't believe that we are seeing it. What we are seeing is a few fights among GBP fighters. But they certainly are not the best fights.

Better than King and Arum and the like. They have had a stranglehold on the sport for far too long.

I say a cross dressing, former elite, future HOF'er is far better!

Plus we get the added benefit of Hopkins occasionally making an ignorant statement. Whats not to like?
