Is GOLDEN BOY PROMOTIONS Really Good for Boxing

Golden Boy Promotions roster is extensive:

    Oscar
    Bernard
    Shane
    MAB
    Winky
    Jhonny Gonz
    Demetrius Hopkins
    Ponce DeLeon
    Rock Allen
    JM marquez
    Juan lazcano
    Oscar Larios
    Joan guzman
    Rocky Juarez
    Barrios
    Librado Andrade
    ETC.

But who appears to be profiting? Oscar, Nard, Shane, and MAB. All GBP principals. All four have had heavily promoted PPV's over the past few months (Shane is next month).

I do not have details about the economics, but it appears that the remainding roster has not gotten into big fights (Marquez-Juarez is on Showtime's 1st saturday show).

GBP kinda ****ed up the Pacquiao situation with a shady $500k-in-a-briefcase-in-the-back-of-a-limo deal. I don't even know what the hell is going on with Ouma's career. AND WHAT IS UP WITH JOEL CASAMAYOR?

Oscar promised a different way of doing business, and I don't believe that we are seeing it. What we are seeing is a few fights among GBP fighters. But they certainly are not the best fights.

It's good to see Fighters (Turned "Promoters") getting the lions share. So many venues, and Boxing Promoters, most of all, gained countless profits off the backs of many fighters. Tables turned time to get paid.

        XCaret,

It's hard to talk to you. mayweather has been in this year's two biggest fights. Both fights had GBP as the lead promoter. Why would I have GBP beef re: FMJ?

        C'mon, man. Think.

The issue - as I stated it - is that the guys at the top made the big bucks in the big fights. Below that top (partnership) level, those guys' career have not flourished.

No disrespect, man, but if you don't understand or care for what i'm saying, then please ignore my threads/posts.

          How do you know?

What were the purses for Pac/mab? If they were NOT substantially higher than Pac/EM, then it's business as usual.

This is a great point. I'd never thought of it like this.

Personally, when I think of GBP, I imagine the three stars of the company, Oscar, Bernard, Shane, they are like the kingpins of the company. How much of a share Bernard and Shane have in the company, I don't know - I'd like to though if you have access to those facts.

Or is it a case that Bernard and Shane are representing different parts of the United States, in recruiting and selecting boxers, and are then just employees of the company on a massive salary?

What I like about GBP is they tend to create excellent fight cards, in terms of the undercards. They're almost always interesting. I think they have good matchmakers under their employment and they definitly seem to treat their fighters right - seems to be the place everyone wants to go now.

But... I see what you're saying about the lower end of their roster and it is true, but it hasn't been a particularly easy fall for boxing with all of these injuries...and we know how hard it is to reschedule dates for a tv broadcast, regardless of the money you're putting on the table.

I'd say give GBP another look this time next year, and see what kind of 08 they have. See if they are continuing to learn, and what progress they make in the sport, if any.

I'd MUCH rather have Golden Boy as a top promotion than Don King Promotions. Boxing really really needs King to go away.

I honestly couldn't tell you if it's good or bad but maybe Oscar, Nard, Shane, and MAB profit the most because they are the biggest names on that list by far. Just a thought. Out of that list only one other name stands out and that is Winky. The average Joe doesn't know anyone else.
