Is gerry Penalosa getting undeserved attention for his KO of Gonzales?

again here is the liver shot that paralyzed Mr. Gonzales..

now, ive watched a couple of Gerry's fight and while he's a solid boxer, he hasnt impressed me much as a break out fighter. but since that KO, his name has been thrown around alot. what do yall think?

Penalosa is a ****ing dinosaur. I mean really...how long has this guy been around? I feel like he may have been the last guy to beat Pancho Villa...

No but for real Gerry is a very sound boxer. Dude hasn't been out of a fight his whole career. That was a whale of a body shot. Gonzales is a very good boxer too. It shows GPs determination coming back in a fight where he was clearly losing against a much bigger, stronger fighter in Jhonny.

Now why doesn't he deserve praise for that KO again?

im not saying he shouldn't get praise for that KO, im just saying will that lead to opportunities that he wouldnt have had the chance to take advantage of otherwise? as you said, he was losing the fight and wasnt very impressive.

and no pinoys, this has nothing to do with him being phillipino.

When you are trained with the solid fundementals of boxing and can execute them perfectly, you can last a long time in boxing. Hopkins is a perfect example. Mayweather, much to the chagrin of his haters, will also be around a VERY long time.

Penalosa is a technician. He'd own Pacquiao if he was bigger, IMO.

Dude I hope this isn't a post made out of hate cuz too much of that going around in here...Put it this way... Gerry is an old boxer that has always had the skills to compete with the top fighters but never got the chance due to him being Filipino. He shoulda been competing with the likes of Jhonny, DPL, Arce, Tapia, etc., a long time ago in his prime instead I guess he wasn't promotable enough until Manny Pacquiao showed that Filipinos can be marketable here in the U.S... Now you see not only Gerry on television but alot more Pinoys fighting and getting their shots... Golden boy, Bob Arum and other promotors are now signing more Pinoy prospects than ever before... Don't be surprised if you see other old Pinoy fighters getting renewed dedication and winning and getting the credit they deserve.

He wasn't getting starched or anything. The fight wasn't a shut out. He didn't land some home run punch with his eyes closed after losing every second of every round...

It's an impressive victory regardless of the fact that he was down on the cards. Gonzales was a bigger opponent and was favored to win going away if I remember right. This should certainly lead to GP receiving more opportunities against reputable opponents in my opinion.

Gerry is an awsome boxer... He is the type that would OWN the likes of Arce, Darchinyan, Donaire, etc... Understand he was fighting outside his natural weight when he fought DPL and Jhonny Gonzales... Many experts believe that he did beat DPL or the scores were alot closer than they were and DPL is a Word Champ. DPL definitely believes it because he wants the rematch and is looking to proove something... Although I don't think he should fight DPL again due to his age and weight class, Gerry is no one hit wonder... He has put other people down before in the same fashion he did with Jhonny...Gerry is a really good fighter.
