I own my own business. I gross roughly 140k a year. once i pay out everything for labor and expenses I'm left with about 90k.

Then comes taxes. I'm penalized for being in business for myself. with a good accountant i might walk with 65k.

I went to SUNY undergrad... Stony Brook. BS Engineering. worked for a couple of years, went to NYU for my MBA and spent a couple years with McKinsey.

No, there is no line, but the fact remains that some are not dedicated enough to take advantage of the oppoutunity, therefor those seat should be filled by those that are worthy.

I would rather pay for non americans that actually want the education and dedicate to become more than they are.


How many so called college graduates end up working in the fast food industry? would you call that beneficial to society? If my money is taken, then i say that money should atleast be used to better society. That way atleast i can benefit second hand.

Theres the problem which you show your ignorance by not understanding, they arent sending the affirmative action cases to mediocre schools, theyre stealing spots at harvard and yale and all the way down the line(including the spot you stole at NYU).
Having said that, I honestly dont mind affirmative action for african americans because I have worked in the ****** of Bmore for 3 years trying to help at risk kids and teens make something out of their absolutely depressing lives. There is some truth to the need for some sort of reperations for slavery(in the form of affirmative action) for them similar to that we give to Native americans.

I spent some time in Cuba (obviously not capitalistic) and talked to alot of people. I have always been of the mindset that education is worthy on its own merits. For the betterment of self. Irrespective of whether there is an ROI on the tuition.

A better educated, more "enlightened" populace SHOULD be more ethical, more moral, more empathetic, more adaptable, etc.

HOWEVER, seeing the pain of the Cuban people who are largely OVEReducated has me torn. My cab driver was an engineer. He and I talked about our backgrounds and our training was similar. I'm staying in a $200/nt hotel and he is driving me around in an old , plastic Soviet-era Lada. ****ty deal.

But, yes, At the end of the day, I believe that education in and of itself is a good thing. Even if those people fail to apply it, or decide to sit on their fat asses. I'm Dominican, and i have seen the flip side.

I've seen an under-trained workforce. Not good. It's no fun to rely on the largesse of sunburned tourists.

Oh, not that I think that there is an immediate impact on M1 or anything. But there is a real impact to the fed (unbalanced) budget and the taxation. I know people who work for the states, and the told me that their appropriations have gone down.

The 90's Dems had the budget deficit pared down. But the Bush years have unwound that.

What keeps me up at night? the trade deficit. Much more so than the budget deficit.
