First off, out of the 5 so called bums you mentioned, two of them were current or former world champions at the time floyd defeated them.

When he defeated Gatti, Gatti came off victories over the undefeated former lightweight champ Dorin and put him into retirement.

Chop Chop Corley a bum????? He is a former WBO jr.welterweight champ. He lost that title by split decision vs Judah. He hurt Cotto real bad before he lost.
    Not a bum

N'dou - not a great but a solid lightweight contender. He had 31 victories, 30 by ko and only 1 loss. Floyd went toe to toe with him...nuff said.

Bruseles...whatever, could be a bum or not. Fact is the WBC appointed him to fight Floyd in a WBC eliminator with the winner becoming a mandatory for Gatti's title. Blame the WBC

Sosa - 35-2...nothing else to it. A bum my definition would have lost far more then that against other bums....this guy won against most of his bums padding a nice lil 35-2 record which means he is above Bum status.

There goes your bum theory. Thread closed

The fact is mayweather and hatton haven't fought enough good opposition to be considered all that great, mayweather has all the skills in the world but hes not active enough and the level and class of opponant bar a few names isn't enough to quantify the hype

Hatton is in the same boat too hes fought past and present champions but never faced enough dangerous opponents and has also sometimes struggled against opposition who should have been easily put away but on the other hand hes beat fighters who have been heavy favorite's

The question marks will hang over both the fighters heads until their careers are finally over or they get there arse into gear and step to the plate, champions need to be constantly facing prime contenders or current champions everything else is just padding.

He wouldn't be a 5-division champion and ranked p4p best by the majority if he was just padding.

Thanks for you expert opinion though.

where do you come across with calling 2 for the most part solid guys BUMS?

I guess its in a good style (the thread).. but pretty hard to prove that Gatti, Sosa or Corley are bums

calling a guy a bum in the boxing sense is a pretty tough thing to say. it means they absolutely suck .. no other way to put it

DeMarcus Corley and Arturo Gatti have been world champions (which has been mentioned)

and in Corley's case he's gone the distance with 3 world champions (Mayweather, Witter and Judah) .. if he was a bum he woulda gotten blown out by any of the above (PBF did blow out Corley .. but DeMarcus made the Witter & Judah fights pretty competative)

see Judah vs Cosme Rivera for a real bum

as for Gatti .. there's more truth to the bumness .. getting blown out by DLH and Floyd .. and Gatti is kinda hyped to the heavens for his fight of the year's .. sure Gatti's reputation maybe a bit inflated, but he's no bum

and as for Sosa .. haven't seen too much of him so can't really comment

but its safe to say that journeyman and bum boxers are held in the same regard

you wouldn't call DeMarcus Corley or Arturo Gatti journeymen .. so why call them bums?

nobody here is saying either man (Corley or Gatti) are first ballot Hall of Famers .. but no way are they bums

*there was a 21 year old a while back on Friday Night Fights .. his record was 7-21 .. I kid you not .. 7 wins, and 21 loses .. THATS a bum

The irony. Wiley Coyote has effectively bitten the style of someone who at times he seems like he wants to kill, if he doesn't get to Mayweather first.

Excellent deconstruction of this fringe nonsense that Wiley digs deep up his ass to find.

Then why has the entire boxing community been blind to this and appointed him some sort of modern boxing great?

                      His cheerful and affable personality?
