Yeah, most of those great swarmers were clinchers. Hell, Graziano, Zale, Fullmer, all those guys held a little bit.

Not every one of us is blessed with the speed and overall talent that a guy like floyd Mayweather is.

ya do the best with what ya got.

Ricky Hatton has the easier work ahead of him in this fight believe it or not.

The point really is this; not every fighter has a good inside game. Not every fighter has the instincts to tie his man up and stay on top of him.

Why would a fighter ever want to have these skills? To fight an opponent who can pick him apart at range, or a fighter who can land a devastating punch at range, which could at any point end the fight.

Every trainer wants a fighter who is capable of getting inside specifically for this contingency. Every trainer wants his fighter to be capable of fighting inside effectively for this contingency. It is a must have skill for the complete fighter, and for the fighter who understands his own limitations.

Now, if you were the trainer.. What would you tell your man to do if he was facing Floyd Mayweather? Would you tell him to box? Would you tell him to throw haymakers and try to knock Floyd out? Or would you tell him to get inside and negate Floyd's superior technique, handspeed, and stinging shots?

          Guess what?!

That IS Ricky Hatton. That is him. He's the guy.

You wouldn't want anyone else to be the man to do it for you.

Next, the question is how do you beat a fighter who is an expert at getting inside, and tying his man up?

Keep him at range, right? Easier said than done.

It is much easier to try to go inside, than try to keep someone out.

Is Floyd Mayweather the best in the world?... Is Floyd Mayweather the best in the world at keeping his opponents at striking range?

Clearly, both are not the same. But both he may well be.

Even still, should Floyd Mayweather prove himself to be the best in the world at what he does - even limiting the opportunity's of ANY opponent - Ricky Hatton is perhaps the best in the world at what he does. And he's been good enough to beat all 43 men of varying disposition and style package with his chosen method. It must be pretty damn good..

Even if Floyd has a percieved edge in doing what he does succesfully, Ricky Hatton's method is the more succesful method, itself.

The only difference in the leonard/mayweather comparison is Leonard could actually punch and would stand and trade.

Imagine leonard with no punch and no willingness to actually trade and you have Mayweather!

Floyd has a perceived edge because, regardless of the deficiencies in power etc..., his style is flashier and appears to the layman to be more sophisticated. You are arguing, correctly if I may be so bold, that the inside game is an art that is just as sophisticated as any other boxing style. And, that as a result, Hatton is perfectly skilled to do the job of bringing a real fight to Floyd. Kudos to you and your stunning string of clips in this thread.

Although I hope Hatton beats Floyd, badly, I will LAUGH MY ASS OFF if Hatton conciously decides not to hold and hit and gets picked apart.

It would be even funnier, if Hatton did not hold and hit and picked Floyd apart anyway.
