A shift in the color spectrum!

Is it me or is a sport that has been predominatly black all of a sudden finding itselff more and more dominated by white fighters? Before anyone gets nuts and starts a race war hear me out.

Kelly Pavlick, Ricky Hatton, Wlad Klit, Valuev,Calzaghe,Kessler, and a host of other white fighters are suddenly all over the place. I have been a fan for 25 years and in that time i Have never seen such an influx of white talent into this sport.

Although it may seem like Color plays a factor in ability, I can assure you that upbringing has much more to do with the equation. Boxing is not and has never been a mainstream sport for the middle class in this country. Somwhere around the 70's whites really stopped participating in boxing as a whole. This lead to less and less whites participating.

Fast forward to today. Most of the whites seen are eastern european, but even so, the american side is bringing more in aswell, with some younger fighters progressing now. Make no mistake, I'm not saying whites are the majority, but no doubt, they have increased in percentage of quality alot.

As the gap between the rich and the poor widens and the middle class disappears, I expect to see more and more Whites comming in to reshape the landscape of a sport that sorely needs the diversity!

This is not racist. It is my impressions of the influx of whites in the limelight of a sport that hasn't seen that in a long time!

yeah, good to see some diversity back in boxing. There really is no explanation though, although I will say that ****** drug lifestyles tend to catch up to and ruin a lot of black fighters, the way that coke ruined a lot of people of all colors in the 80s. Still, white AND black athletes choose the NFL or NBA before anything, if you get into boxing its usually a luck of the draw type thing these days, maybe spurred on a little bit by poverty.

(waiting for the inevitable honking of the race card players)

theres no way you can say ANYTHING in this country anymore without some1 being offended.

if somebody calls you a racist, you should almost take it as a compliment.... cuz it shows that somebody's paying attention.

why does it have to be about color instead of the skills or lack of it in the ring?

Its not dominated by whites. Its just that its more whites then it has been in a long time. Its still mostly black and dominated by blacks. Its like the NBA with the Euro invasion. Its still pretty much a black league with most of the best ball players being black but there are alot more whites then there had been in the years past. Boxing is that same way. It may seem like the Whites are dominating because when a White guy is on top it stands out more but its still mostly a black or minorty sport and mostly dominated by those same guys. The HW division may be a different story but that division sucks now. I know Whites will try to argue that black people say the HW division sucks just because the White guys dominate it but I think even most White experts feel the division sucks. Its just not as good as in years past and we would be saying that even if all the guys were black. If Peter, Brock, and some other black guys won all the HW belts right now all the black people would still say the divison sucks and is weak
