White champs are good for the sport. It brings in new fans. Whether you like to admit it or not, some white people are going to be drawn to a white fighter. Just wait and see what happens if Pavlik keeps winning. He's going to be a huge star.
A shift in the color spectrum!

On the athletic spectrum, the NBA is now 85% black, the NFL is about 70% black, and the MLB continues to migrate toward predominantly Hispanics.yeah, good to see some diversity back in boxing. There really is no explanation though, although I will say that ****** drug lifestyles tend to catch up to and ruin a lot of black fighters, the way that coke ruined a lot of people of all colors in the 80s. Still, white AND black athletes choose the NFL or NBA before anything, if you get into boxing its usually a luck of the draw type thing these days, maybe spurred on a little bit by poverty.
I've never really bought into it, but I am starting to think that the better athletes realy ARE choosing the lower-risk, higher-paying mainstream sports. It does seem that the white athlete isn't finding success in team sports, but IS finding more success in boxing, for example.Comment

i agree hereIs it me or is a sport that has been predominatly black all of a sudden finding itselff more and more dominated by white fighters? Before anyone gets nuts and starts a race war hear me out.
Kelly Pavlick, Ricky Hatton, Wlad Klit, Valuev,Calzaghe,Kessler, and a host of other white fighters are suddenly all over the place. I have been a fan for 25 years and in that time i Have never seen such an influx of white talent into this sport.
Although it may seem like Color plays a factor in ability, I can assure you that upbringing has much more to do with the equation. Boxing is not and has never been a mainstream sport for the middle class in this country. Somwhere around the 70's whites really stopped participating in boxing as a whole. This lead to less and less whites participating.
Fast forward to today. Most of the whites seen are eastern european, but even so, the american side is bringing more in aswell, with some younger fighters progressing now. Make no mistake, I'm not saying whites are the majority, but no doubt, they have increased in percentage of quality alot.
As the gap between the rich and the poor widens and the middle class disappears, I expect to see more and more Whites comming in to reshape the landscape of a sport that sorely needs the diversity!
This is not racist. It is my impressions of the influx of whites in the limelight of a sport that hasn't seen that in a long time!Comment

You are wrong by saying that. Hockey and Soccer. Is the white athlete not finding success in these team sports?Comment

Man skip this racial ****. That was a fight between two MEN. Nothing more. Just 'cause Kelly Pavlik can fight through adversity, doesn't make you better. And the fact that Taylor folded as soon as he was punched is no reflection on black people. Just one weak man, no more than that.Comment

It's white people who don't believe it. In my experience blacks accept that SOME whites will compete with them.
But to give you one all too common example: I went to the bar tonight to watch. The guy next to me told me he was a Philly native (like me!!) and an old Hagler and Hopkins fan. I pointed to Pavlik and said that's maybe the next middleweight champ. He said "he'll lose, he's white."
You muh'****ers know by now that I had difficulties in keeping myself from knocking his old white ass unconscious.Comment
