boxing also costs hundreds of dollars, have you ever trained? Well often times you have your gloves, your headgear which you has to fit you, you have to pay the trainer and all types of other gym fees and all kinds of other ****, amatuer tourneys are not free. No matter what sports costs money, period. , training in boxing costs money.
I guess i was lucky. In my town there were two gyms. No fee's, and all the gear was provided. Sure, it wasn't top of the line ****, but it was everything needed! Road work, bag work, a small ring for sparring, and some weights for shadowboxing. The city funded the place i was at, and the guy that ran it worked for the city. Good times.Spend 7 years there and never dropped a dime!

Not to say that some gyms arent expensive.

This is not the time for this kind of a thread.

But let me just say, boxing became more popular, that's why you see it more diversified.

To be honest the fact that a shift in the colour spectrum actually matters enough for people to make discussions about it makes me question their character and true interest in boxing.

This is not an issue of lifestyles either, but quality fighters..

What does population have to do with it? It has everthing to do with economic background.

If what you are saying is correct explain why boxing has been predominantly black for the past thirty years?

It was once predominantly white. What Happened?

How many champions from the slums of society? How many white people live in those slums?

The truth is, "White America" moved away in droves from athletics at one point, whereas "black America" did not. Thats not racist, thats just truth.

Look at every Major contact sport out there and you will find that overall blacks are the majority.

Boxing,Basketball,Football,Baseball(has switched to a more Latino majority), Track and field, and so on.

Sports like Tennis,Golf,Hockey,Bowling and any other non brutal sport is primarily dominated by whites.

            why is that?

I actually think this is pretty wrong to be honest. Boxing's elite are very diversified in terms of ethnicity and race.

Also these sports are on cable television a lot, and are covered by big networks on a daily basis. You can bet your ass if boxing was on CBS and FOX every Sunday afternoon that kids would be flooding boxing gyms.
Yeah... but nearly EVERY high school in America has a football team. White, black, rural, suburban, urban. MOST of the kids who attend paid football camps are white. College football is mostly white...

STILL, blacks comprise only 13% of the US population, yet 70% of the NFL.

The white kids are playing football and hoop. They just aren't finding success at the highest levels.

White america didn't "move away" from it. They still TRY to get into the sports.

The sports just have put more of a focus on pure athleticism (speed, power, jumping, quickness, hand/eye coordiantion, etc). And the white athlete is having a tough time competing with the black and latino athlete.

The first question is "what's his 40 time?".... speed is just so much more valued today.
