Hatton fought his way to the top. Pavlik fought his way to the top. Miranda had 1 fight on HBO as compared to Jones' record I dont what the number is.
I disagree. Beating James Toney curtails any hype Roy Jones may have had up until that time. In my opinion, Toney is one of the most skilled fighters to ever lace up a pair of boxing gloves. A guy whose skill has carried him through his late 30s where he was beating up on cruisers and heavies. James Toney is as 'sweet science' as it gets and Roy beat him fairly easily. What's there to say that hasn't been said a ZILLION times about Roy Jones Jr? A supremely talented guy who fell from grace in an abrupt way and now people tend to view the latter part of his career as a perspective on him as a fighter. But I disagree, you have to look at his entire career, not just the last leg of it and if you do, there is no doubt that Roy is one of the best ever.

I don't think Pavlik is over hyped by HBO. HBO had people believing that Roy Jones, Jr. was god with boxing gloves on. Don't you remember? Not saying Roy wasn't great. He was great. But there is a limit here.

I'm sorry I know alot of people here are big fans of his but he is their biggest hype job ever. Very talented boxer yes, but he was so protected by HBO throughout his pro career. He had more fights on HBO than anybody else in history and so many of them garbage fights.
Nobody wanted to fight Roy, there was a point that he let HBO choose is fights, he didn't care who it was and noone would take the 7-digit offer.

That is contradicting yourself, Roy Jones was the best for years at several weight classes and he is hyped but Barrera who was the best at featherweight isn't hyped? Wow.

He never fought the best competiton so saying he was the best is speculation 'hype.'

It didn't matter though. He'd be fighting garbage men from New York on TV and HBO would televise and nuthug the hell out of him.

He was probably the best at 175 but he never beat the best at 168 or at 160. Not even close to taht.

Was he not the best at his weight class. You said Barrera wasn't hyped because he was the best at his weight class, so was Jones. Thus, you are contradicting yourself.
