I don't think it's necessary to re-post it. And in that thread you will further find Dios Dominicano's post published later on where Floyd even states that he wanted Gatti before considering a fight with Tszyu. I think it's pretty clear what happened.
I understand am not dis*****g your post or anything, am just putting it out there like i know back here in the U.K, You see before Hatton fought Tsyzu we were all frustrated because Frank warren wouldnt let him fight anyone with a pulse, Even Hatton got frustarted fighting stiff and threaten Warren who finally made his promise come through by giving everything to tsyzu to come to england...Tsyzu actually wanted to fight Gatti or Mayweather because of the money.

My theory to counter the Tszyu ducking conspiracy (as previously posted):

Floyd wanted to become a PPV star, which is why he waited for the perfect opportunity... to perform impressively against a massively popular fighter. Arturo Gatti was the perfect target. Remember that Floyd passed up the 2nd Castillo fight on PPV...

He wanted to establish himself as a PPV star before he fought Tszyu, so he could make some extra revenue from the Tszyu fight. Unfortunately, Tszyu rolled over and died against Hatton, and was never to be heard from again.

      Can someone please refute this?

**** I didn't even read an article to formulate that.

If it's so wrong, then refute it...

I can't talk from first-hand experience, but my story makes sense with the circumstances. Floyd always mentioned PPV when he talked about the fight with Arturo Gatti (in the fights preceeding it).

Dude you're preaching to the choir.

That's the goal of every single professional boxer that turns pro. Least risk with the best reward.

Tell me something I don't know.

Well right, I just think it is hard to say that Floyd didn't want any part of Tszyu... Just because he wanted to get set as a PPV fighter first doesn't mean it was (or wasn't) on his list of goals at the 140 pound division.

It's not hard to say. In fact, it's all too apparent. Why fight a truly skilled and very dangerous world champion when you can fight a washed up B grade paper champion for a title and big money? This notwithstanding, to say that Gatti was somehow a bigger fight than Kostya Tszyu is to labor under an incredible misperception that was generated by cynical business executives and the media. Tszyu-Floyd would have been a true superfight and it would have been marketed accordingly. Had Floyd won this fight, his status as a legitimate history maker would have been cemented in stone, but he avoided this. Why? Answer: Kostya Tszyu was simply too dangerous to go around risking "superstar status" on.

It's obvious even without the evidence having been presented what happened at 140. It was a cynical business move pure and simple, but astute boxing watchers know exactly what happened and Floyd has been defined by it. Floyd NEVER had any intention of fighting Kostya Tszyu as long as he was still formidable.

                  1. There is no reason that he could not do both.
                  2. Gatti-Mayweather got more buys than Tszyu-Hatton, which was also a "superfight", right? Undefeated fighter against legend in Tszyu. Calzaghe-Kessler didn't make a PPV splash, even though it was a superfight.

No....Hatton v. Tszyu was not a "superfight" fight because Hatton at that time was relatively unknown to the American consumer and because Hatton was a big time underdog. You cannot compare the PPV drawing power of Hatton at that time with the PPV drawing power of Floyd at that time.

Could he have done both? Of course, but would he have done both? IMO the answer is NO, not as long as Tszyu was in championship form. Too dangerous. Maybe he could have fought Tszyu right off the bat after moving to 140. Maybe soon thereafter. But, nothing of the sort was ever seriously attempted by Floyd.

I think it's an interesting question to ask: What if Tszyu would have beaten Hatton? Would we still be waiting for the big fight with Tszyu? Let's see... Tszyu is 38 years old or so right now....
