Mayweather however; has never been and never will be the kind of guy that takes on all comers.
The bold statement can be said about a lot of fighters not just PBF.

hatton fought an old washed up shot castillo
      we all know that
      floyd fought a prime castillo
castillo has went up against both and knows firsthand how they fight
floyd has the speed and overall skill over hatton along with the reach
and he has a good chin
hatton has an aggressive smothering style and does good body work
but floyd is a defensive mastermind and a great counter puncher and should find a way to win against hatton
      it should an exciting fight

      • i have all the castillo v hatton build up and fight on dvd, this quote was said before they fought, so im not sure if the person who started this thread is trying to be clever or it was just a genuine mistake. Secondly directly after the fight castillo was asked the same question and his reply was...

"i think it will be a very interesting fight, as we say in mexico 'the cat against the mouse'"

So i think his opinion changed after he actually got in the ring with hatton. I also believe the second quote is on this website under the video archives, in hatton castillo post fight presser if anyone wants to check that out

The Castillo who fought Mayweather over a half decade ago and the Castillo who fought Hatton in June are totally different fighters. Watch the two fights and it's painfully obvious what time and incessant ring wars have done to Castillo. Against Mayweather he was active and relentless in his assault and by the time Hatton got to him he looked old and slow...shot beyond belief.

          • i've seen both fights at least 5 times, in fact iv got castillo mayweather I on my computer, firstly the points i was making were completely irrelevant to ur point as i was just correcting the thread title which was misleading. Another thing u have to consider washed up or not hatton won every round and knocked castillo out in the 4th so he couldn have done anymore than that, guess what im trying to say is altho i do agree with you i think its very debatable whether a prime castillo was better equipped to beat mayweather than a prime hatton now.

Hatton will clearly be the stronger of the two fighters and the harder puncher. There was a quote from Oscar after the Mayweather fight where he said something to the effect of "I left my chin hanging all night cos everytime he hit me I didnt feel anything so I was quite happy to take some on the chin to land my own".

Mayweather relies on his speed and natural boxing ability at these higher weights, not strength or power punching.
              Saxon,

Floyd was an under-sized 135er/140er a few years ago. He is now an undersized WW who is still smaler than most 140ers.

That being said, if hatton fought flloyd two years ago, he would have faced a smaller and less strong version of floyd. Do I have any "proof" that floyd is stronger today? No. Just like you don't have any "proof" that hatton is stronger than Floyd.

But I think as boxing fans, it is reasonable to assume that since Floyd has put on about seven pounds of lean muscle, and since he has spent the past two years working out and fighting and sparring with very big men, Floyd would have gotten stronger than he was at 135/140.

And if you say that you don't remember Floyd mixing it up at 140/147, it is because you missed this run:

Sharmba - dropped a couple of times & stopped in six rounds
Corley - punished and KD'd three times
Gatti - stopped in six rounds. Vicious beating.
Bruseles - stopped on a vicious bodyshot. While PBF handicapped the SuperBowl with Lampley.

That is the amalgam of PBF's work at 140. i'm confused as to how you can attribute that to "not mixing it up".

Can you please link me to that Oscar quote?

But **** Hatton he'll probably get stopped on 12/8
I definitely disagree with you Kayjay. I think you might be underestimating JLC a bit. Like I said before the guy has an underated jab & could really fight on the inside. Hatton is more of a mauler & is very good at what he does. JLC isn't just gonna maul you, but he used to punish fighters on the inside that tried to grab him. I don't even think that Hatton could beat Casamayor.

                • i agree with dios that mayweather is a visibly bigger and stronger fighter now, he has built himself into welter pretty well, altho he is still pretty small at the weight. But i would also say is that a good thing for mayweather, i feel that the floyd that fought gatti wouldve given hatton more problems cos i think he was noticably faster, i think the extra bulk has made him a bit slower. I also read that article of oscar slating floyd's power, he said that hatton didnt have to respect his power too much and that might give hatton an edge.

To say hatton couldnt beat casamayor is laughable! He fought and beat a better, and bigger southpaw in collazo with poor preparation. Casamayor would never have the power to keep ricky honest.

Collazo bigger? No doubt. Collazo better? Not even Luis believes that.

Casamayor isn't as strong as Luis... but probably hits damn near as hard since Collazo is a true feather-duster.

But Joel is dirtier, smarter, tougher, faster and just a more versatile fighter than LC.
