Coyote Duran: I can see how that would work in the end but you'd think now that Ricky Hatton would feel like he was wasting his time against a Carlos Maussa since he beat the real champion.

Frank Warren: I would've thought so. I mean, prior to that fight, I had offered him the (WBO titlist Miguel) Cotto fight. I had offered him (WBC titlist) Floyd Mayweather. Even Don King and I spoke about (Undisputed Welterweight Champion) Zab Judah. But when he went out to Atlantic City to see the Maussa fight, he wanted the Maussa fight. To me, it's a belt and I can understand, as a fighter, that he'd want that belt, but let's be honest about it. Kostya Tszyu vacated that title and Ricky Hatton beat Kostya Tszyu. So, on the same list as Joe Calzaghe, he was the #1 by Ring magazine. Who cares about that (WBA belt)?

Coyote Duran: Right. Hatton doesn't need Maussa's belt. He's the man.
It's in this months issue of Boxing Monthly.

I can assure you Warren made this statement.

It can be found in the section where all the big names in the UK are making their picks for Hatton/Mayweather. Warren made this comment when he was referring to a potential winner. He picked Mayweater incidentally..

He said the Mayweather camp "..was not too keen.."

Nothing majorly definitive there.. But of course it's true.

Ricky is a "wrestler" he's "WWE."

Floyd had his OWN excuses at the time..

    • The same could be said about Floyd fighting Judah, he fought for a fake belt, that fight was completely meaningless and happened way too late.
I call bull****, zab was far more dangerous as a fighter then carlos maussa.

      • Hatton beats Judah any day of the week.

Shane ****ed up by not taking the fight. Or perhaps his boss told him to leave PBF for his Cinco de Mayo fight. Who knows?

But that delay cost Shane a ****load because Shane fought Collazo in an empty arena on WCB for $2 mil, and he isn't making that much for the Cotto fight either.

Hatton is making 3x what Shane is making this fall. PBF-RH is a bigger fight than PBF-SSM....and that is the business decision that Floyd made.

Another point: Shane can't allow his she-devil to muscle him into family vacations that delay fights at 35 years old. His clock is ticking.
I agree with everything on Mosley.

Mayweather however; has never been and never will be the kind of guy that takes on all comers.

EDIT: I'm relating my post to yours on a meaningless fight basis, this has nothing to do with Ricky Hatton.
            Shanus,

You are right.... but Floyd didn't WANT to fight Judah after the baldomir loss. He was left with no options.

They called Hatton, but Team hatton wanted to execute their American warm-up plan. They asked Arum to ****can the crappy Margarito-Gomez PPV at the Aladdin. Arum didn't want to kill that date. So they went back to King/Judah, and got Zab to reduce his purse from $3 mil down to 1 mil and the fight was made. It was still a big money fight. It did almost 400k PPV's and they sold out Thomas & mack (15,000)

BAD move by Arum. He thought that they would just get Floyd later. The Margarito-Gomez PPV ended up tanking badly: it was a half-sold room, and it only did about 35K buys.

It was AFTER the Judah fight that Arum tried his "$8 million offer" trick. But PBF had his eye on DLH for last fall. Opportunity missed for Arum/tony.

Remember how Oscar said that he would announce his fight plan for sep 16th, 2006? He was gonna make the announcement during the Hopkins-tarver weekend in Atlantic City. Same date as Cotto-malignaggi. But then DLH said that his shoulder was injured and he wouldn't fight again in '06.

Right after Baldomir, PBF-Oscar agreed in principal for their fight.

Nobody's dis*****g this, I'm a big Judah fan myself, but at the time Maussa beat Vivian Harris, it was a huge upset.. everybody was saying that Harris was going to whoop Maussa and then Hatton, and if you looked at the physical statistics of Maussa compared to Hatton, pair that with the fact that Maussa was extremely awkward and dirty, and the sprinkles ontop was Hatton's weak skin.

Anyway, the tale of the tape is, Maussa had just come off a huge win, Zab had come off a devastating loss.

That's pretty much spot on, you have a good memory.

"has never been" - Disagree. PBF wanted any and everybody coming up. His early comp level is beyond reproach.

"will never be" - ABSOLUTELY AGREE. PBF will ONLY take the biggest money fights now. So don't expect to see paul Williams anytime soon...or ever.

That's disappointing, because IF Williams becomes a big name in boxing - which everybody expects, Floyd will be long gone.

I will post all the details, but here is t0he quick skinny:

JLC failed to make weight for Corrales by 4 pounds. Diego cancelled the fight and sued JLC. Corrales was very pissed that JLC did not notify him that he couldn't make weight and that JLC showed up weighing 139. Diego died in a drunken motorcycle crash (0.25 BAC on a 0.08 limit). Chico's family continues to pursue the lawsuit on behalf of the estate.

                      Here is the hypocrisy:

Diego HIMSELF showed up for the Casamayor fight weighing.... 139. My man Casamayor did not complain, and took the fight and beat Diego anyway.

It is because of this hypocrisy that I will not contribute to the Corrales family Benefit Fund, although I respected Chico greatly as a fighter. His family cannot benefit while the castillo family suffers economic loss.

Back to Castillo.... He walked away with $4,000 (four thousand) for the Ndjougo fight and about $100,000 (one hundred thousand) for the Hatton fight. This is because of the lawsuit and the NSAC fines.

That is a travesty. And it is because of these problems that JLC was undergoing that many people discount Hatton's victory. In part. How motivated would you be if you were practically fighting for free?

I know that the Hattonettes will work themselves into a lather. But what I just stated is fact.
Castillo showed up overweight TWICE. For the second fight and the third fight. They didn't pursue a lawsuit until he showed up overweight again, or am I wrong?
