shh don't tell the people watching it. lol

part of the reason its easier for the UFC to have these huge matchups is because they only have 5 divisions. you can't really duck anyone, cuz the weight classes are more stubburn so to speak (for the record the 5 weights are 155, 170, 185, 205 and 205+)

think about that ... how many divisions does boxing have? 16 I believe

"Manny Pacquaio-Marco Antonio Barerra II" .. no, this fights a hell of a lot better/bigger ... plus its not a rematch to a one sided fight that happened 4 years ago

Rampage and Henderson have been in PRIDE at the same time, but never fought. its brand spanking new.

even on a 6 hour tape delay.

Boxing used to be on tape delay all the time free on TV; tape delay free is still a hell of a deal. And refer above; I noted in the piece that HBO has some great non-PPV but it's still premium and lots of people (most cable folk) don't have it even with 30 mill plus subscribed. It's a luxury, which makes boxing one by proxy.

MJ: the point not made well was that in relation to the biggest fights in its sport, this fight ranks about where MAB-Pac does.

you think a rematch to a one sided fight is signifigant?

grated well see how everything plays out October 6th

but I think as a fan wouldn't you rather see Pacman take on Marquez

rather than someone he already beat, not to mention relatively easily.

Too bad for boxing; this fight isn’t one of ours.

In the latest move that hails the winner-take/all-American competition that has erupted between the worlds of professional boxing and mixed martial arts, the UFC is giving away one of the two or three best money matches in its sport this Saturday on Spike TV. In boxing terms, this is Manny Pacquaio-Marco Antonio Barerra II going live on ESPN. In business terms, this is the UFC making a move to overwhelm its elder cousin.

If the bout between UFC light heavyweight champion Rampage Jackson and Pride middleweight and light heavyweight champ Dan Henderson is a solid fight (unlike the flub that was Jackson-Chuck Liddell), they’ll be a hell of a big step closer.

In some ways, 2007 has been a year of great rebound for boxing. It’s delivering a stream of red hot fights at a time when anything less would be both dangerous and foolish. Such is the beauty of competition. Unfortunately, no matter how many great fights are made, audience size is a huge component in any sports popularity and Jackson-Henderson can deliver an audience no major fight has seen in years.

Call it the benefit of a business model. UFC has one. Boxing does not. UFC is 21st century sports marketing and savvy; boxing is pre-Keynesian laissez faire capitalism in a world without room for it. It’s a series of independent contracts going to the highest bidder, regardless of whether or not the end result of all those contracts eventually result in lower real bids and less real audience. If you like watching unskilled street fighters this will be a good show.

The only reason that all this phony martial arts has caught on with the fans is because boxing is become so boring. Typical example of this is when I heard one of Fernando Vargus's trainers advising him to ignore the fans and just box. IGNORE THE FANS! Just who the **** is paying the bills? If you ignore the fans, the fans will ignore you. This is why these unskilled street fighters pretending to be martial artists are drawing a big audience.

I agree....these people are ****en idiots. They act like this fight is going to have a Castillo vs. Corrales result, let alone any of boxings classics. These UFC big fights always have a lame result. The UFC can put on all their PPV's free on T.V., but in the end. it will still be the same lame **** over and over again.

The reason this fight is free is because Chuck got Ko'd by somebody the "Casual" UFC fans arent familiar with, Also all the casual fans dont know who henderson is because he fought most of his career in Japan. If this fight was on PPV the buy rates would be pretty low. I aint mad at them though, Im glad I get to see some fights tonight, since boxing is having a bit of a break till the "Sleeping Giant" Awakes.

LOL at unskilled; Henderson is a two-time Olympic wrestler and many of his compatriots were also have extensive competitive backgrounds. The average street fight is never like these guys (and I don't really even like MMA).

I am not the biggest MMA fan either but seriously, most boxing fans are just plain ignorant when they say that MMA fighters are just a bunch of barfighting non skilled hicks.
