  • Whoever Floyd beats, you'll keep raising the bar...

A couple of years ago, I asked the question (on another boxing board) of who PBF would have to beat in order to be considered among the all-time greats.

At the time, the answer was:

Judah (he was undisputed WW champ at the time)
    Margarito (to unify the title)
Delahoya/Winky/Shane (any one of these "veterans")
Hatton (he had just knocked off Tszyu)

So, PBF has beaten two of those, and is fighting a third in a few months. The fourth, Antonio Margarito, has lost and is off the radar.

Something tells me that even if PBF dominates Hatton, he won't be considered on the shortlist (5-10) of GOATs.

So, my question is this: WHAT DOES PBF NEED TO ACCOMPLISH WITHIN THE NEXT THREE FIGHTS TO BE CONSIDERED AN ALL-TIME GREAT IN YOUR EYES?

This is not a thread of who Mayweather CAN beat. Let's assume (just for argument's sake) that he DOES win.

If FMJ beats Hatton, then the winner of Mosley/Cotto, then one of the young lions (Williams/Cintron/Berto), is that enough for YOU to say "Yeah, I saw one of the very best". ... or will you need him to beat Taylor, then Pavlik, then Chad, then Wlad, then Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz?

          Tony,

You are essentially saying that he would have to beat about 6 or 7 of the top guys in his weight class(es). Within a three year span. I can't really think of anyone who has ever done that.

Are you holding him to a different standard than, say, Sugar Ray Leonard?

Personally, I would like to see Mayweather push himself as far as he can go so that we can see just how good he really is. His accomplishments thus far have been formidable but I don't think it is unreasonable for people to challenge a great athlete, and one who isn't slow to remind us all of how great he is, to push the boundaries and embrace the challenges which are in his path.

If you ask how many dollars I need to give you to **** your sister and you say $4. Then I give you $2 and say "For ****s sake, if I give you another one dollar you arent going to let me **** your sister are you?" how can I expect any response other than no?

This of course is not taking into account that I could probably have your sister for free if I wanted/asked/showed a passing interest/was in the same room as her/etc.
Thanks for the insults. It's always impressive to when people are tough guys from the safety of their homes.

                ANYWAY...

Either you misunderstood, or I communicated poorly. After "fulfilling" 3 of the four criteria (Hatton TBD, of course), the response was that he would STILL have to do these additional 3 or 4 or 5 things.

He hasnt even done the third yet. So why start bitching and moaning over pure speculation?

It's always impressive to when people assume that they are the tough guys by saying "Oh yeah...its okay saying that behind the safety of your computer screens".

                  $4 dollar?

I agree with Tony, right here. My previous posts suggest the same. I have NEVER once said anything negative about Floyd, just who he NEEDS to fight to be an All Time Great.

I want to see PBF fight The "YOUNG", UNDEFEATED LION!!!
