I like Cotto a lot. He is a hell of a tallented fighter and could do a lot in the division. But I think a 60-40 split is more than fair. When I talk boxing with casual fans of boxing they know the name "Sugar" Shane Mosely, but not so much with Cotto's. Like him or not, Mosely is the name draw here.Comment

Shane has the national name. Cotto can sell the Garden, but he can't sell PPVs without Shane. And PPV revenue FAR exceeds gate revenue.Comment

But I won't be the LEAST suprised if Shane shows up looking old and gets blown up. Shane is a 36 year old lightweight. Adjust your expectations.Comment

How is that being a hater? This is boxing and its all about money. Arum is the greediest cat out there. You think he would fight Mosley for 40-60 if he didnt have to? 40-60 is not even that bad. If they get 10mil then Shane gets 6 to Cotto's 4. Also, Shane has been P4P the #1 guy in the sport before and has had a ton of bigger fights and wins then Cotto so how do all of you figure that Cotto is doing something special? Just because he's undefeated? Really, Cotto probally couldve got 50/50 or 55/45 but then the fight wouldnt be in NY and you know that they werent going for that. Who else was Cotto going to fight? Even if Margarito had won, I bet they still wouldnt have even fought him after Cotto's numbers. The only reason why they would even consider it is because Arum would be getting money both ways but that fight wouldnt have sold any PPV's. Cotto had to take this fight. He wouldnt make any big money against anyone else except for guys who would even take more then 60Comment

He is making the same decision PBF made in the Gatti fight. Use the bigger name to help you take a step up. Only difference is that Shane MAY still be a real guy. Gatti didn't belong in that ring.

G. Leon, How are you going to have Miguel Cotto at number 10 on your list before he fought Zab Judah and now have him at number 11 after he won the fight and is scheduled to fight Shane Mosely next, which coincidentally is a tougher fight than Hatton. That’s just plain ******ed G. I know you might not like Cotto but give props where props are due. - Avid boxing fan from Savannah, Ga. Jose Raul
Leon's Response: Jose Raul you are mistaken. Prior to his fight with Judah Cotto was ranked somewhere in the teens. After he stopped Zab he was elevated to the top 10. With Vazquez stopping Marquez, another top ten pound for pounder, Cotto drops one spot. If Cotto defeats Mosley impressivley or even cleanly he'd be in the top seven. If Mosley beats Cotto impressively or cleanly, he returns to the bottom half of the top ten as well. There's no question Cotto deserves props. I don't know too many undefeated Puerto Rican world champions who would agree to 40-60 to fight Shane Mosley at Madison Square Garden.

That says a lot about the kind of fighter that Cotto is...
He wants to keep climbing.Comment

this is a display of cotto's future greatness. money's not an issue for him. money doesnt decide who he fights. *cough* floyd *cough*.Comment

Blown up lightweight? You don't cleanly beat Oscar De La Hoya at welterweight in 2000 without being legitimate at welterweight. Plus he moved up to 154 and at least made some hay which is debatable as far as Cotto is concerned doing the same because he is probably too short for 154 as I think he's even one inch shorter than Shane although I can't say for sureComment
