Shane can get PPV sales and cotto can sell out seats, seems like they need one another.
Cotto agrees to 40-60 split to fight Shane

Cotto is good for boxing. More fighters need to be like him. He's not greedy at all. He understands having even 1 million dollars is better than nothing.Comment

Cotto is a class act not greedy like other fighters, willing to take on anybody for any price, doesnt complain, does his job like a professional and doesnt trash talkComment

All of you guys are straight up smoking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was actually going to make a thread about this a couple of days ago when I 1st read it. You guys are giving Cotto way too much credit for making this fight. Stop trying to act like he's doing something special.
All of you guys are getting Cotto's so called talent mixed up with his ability to sale PPV's. He didnt do anything special by taking the 40-60. The fact is that Mosley has sold way way way more buys then Cotto. Cotto hasnt really sold anything outside of NY & PR. He took the fight because he will make way more then he ever has and he's basically fighting in PR if you know what I mean.
Either way your totally wrong if you try to make Cotto out to be this guy who takes big pay cuts just to fight the best. The fact is that he's not taking a pay cut at all. Thats what he's worth right now and he gets to fight in NY so I bet he jumped at this deal. Cotto was talking smack before the Zab fight just like Arum was but they were shocked aftewards that Cotto still wasnt putting up numbers. Thats another reason why they didnt want to fight Floyd yet because they knew he wouldnt get hardly anything in that fight. The same goes for Cotto-Oscar. The fact is he's not Tito or atleast not yet. It could change at anytime and maybe this fight will do it. If he gets good numbers in this fight then I bet you wont see him take these kind of deals anymore.Comment

1st off 250 is nothing special, 2nd that number is false as Arum even said 225, 3rd mostly every expert thinks Arum put the number up and it may not even be 200. Thats why he was slick and never posted the final numbers. He even said that he was shocked & dissapointedComment

How is that being a hater? This is boxing and its all about money. Arum is the greediest cat out there. You think he would fight Mosley for 40-60 if he didnt have to? 40-60 is not even that bad. If they get 10mil then Shane gets 6 to Cotto's 4. Also, Shane has been P4P the #1 guy in the sport before and has had a ton of bigger fights and wins then Cotto so how do all of you figure that Cotto is doing something special? Just because he's undefeated? Really, Cotto probally couldve got 50/50 or 55/45 but then the fight wouldnt be in NY and you know that they werent going for that. Who else was Cotto going to fight? Even if Margarito had won, I bet they still wouldnt have even fought him after Cotto's numbers. The only reason why they would even consider it is because Arum would be getting money both ways but that fight wouldnt have sold any PPV's. Cotto had to take this fight. He wouldnt make any big money against anyone else except for guys who would even take more then 60Last edited by DLT; 08-13-2007, 02:49 PM.Comment
