Fighters optimum/Prime comes on different age.

Vargas was shot @25 ( more of the mental aspect )
    Tyson was champ @20
    Benitez was champ @ 17 or 18
    PAC was champ @ 19
    Morales was downhill from 29
Lennox Lewis' prime was when he was already 35 IMO

Evander thinks he can be undesputed @44, 45

    and so on.....

so if jr's handlers feels that he's not ready yet then they might be right.
Point is...Those guys didn't win 33 pro fights or make it far by fighting only cab drivers.
Vargas had no business being in the ring with Tito who was the Tyson of the welter and jr midddle div at that time (who imo was the begining of the end for vargas) but Vargas could've continued fighting guys like Winky who's not heavy handed or former champs with more experience instead of Tito. And that's what's going to happened to Chavez jr if he only continues to fight cabbies...if not worse. He needs a boost, he needs someone that will test him and challenge him in the ring that will take him the full 12 rounds..He needs someone in his league not below or above. That is how he will get the real experience he needs for the big shots. You're suppossed to climb up the steps of the ladder, not stay in one place.

he needs this he needs that, stfu already, what he needs is what he's doing, taking it slow. if anyone here has ever been a fighter you know you need a good amature career to learn everything, if you don't then it won't work unless you do what they are doing with jr. everyone wants him to have big fights against better opponents already, why? he's still in that learning stage. look at oscar, he had something like 200 fights in the amatures, jr has 33 fights total, and you idiots are wondering why he's going slow? you guys are either ****** or don't know **** about the process of making it as a prize fighter. now i will give you this, he should have done the amature thing, but he did'nt, so he's doing the next best thing there is,going slow. i think he has the potential to be one of the greats, but it will take time. from the fights i've seen he's been learning alot fast, so in the next 5 years he will be one of the top names. so give the kid a break, stop hating, at least he's trying

If he has no amatuer fights...guess who's fault is that??
If he's still in the learning stages and needs to go slow...then he should be fighting in Fair park gyms and not on tv..especially on the ppv undercard receiving airtime and money for fighting cabbies while the rest has to earn it the hard way. That's why Boxing is mesed up today. Boxers can pick any opponents suitable for them...outprice themselves in order to avoid a confrontation... Become professional even though they're not..lol I wish Boxing was more like Baseball or Football where you have to earn your professionalism!! Not become professional only to use it as a training course and of course making money off of it doesn't hurt either.
Problem is we have too many die hard cheerleading Jr fans that are willing to turn a blind eye to the situation , make excuses for him and not point out the mistakes. People now a days mistake constructive criticism with "hating".
I'm not hating on anyone and i'm only speaking for myself. Chavez jr has talent and decent skills but needs to be tested every once in awhile to keep him sharp before moving to the next level. It's called common sense.

        • I think it would be nice if Chavez Jr were fighting people closer to his own skill level. He doesn't need to fight top contenders or even people that I have heard of. I don't care about that. HIs fights are just damn boring because he only fights bums. He will always be an amature if all he fights are bums.

guess who's fault that is? damn that sounds like you're pissed at nothing. and everything you just said sounds like you're hating, not constructive criticism. like you have an excuse for everything i just said. i gave some good reasons why he's going slow. people just like to knock on jr cause he has his fathers name, he's getting up there slowly but surely, there will always be someone hating on him, wheather they think they are or not.

            • i like chavez jr. i admire his heart and the courage he has to go in and fight with limited experience.

what i dont like is the father/son comments that i hear all the time.

will paulie knockout chavez jr? no...or highly, highly, highly unlikely...like 1000 to 1 odds.

will he put him down for at least a knock down...that about 100 to 1 odds.

paulie is by no means a powerpuncher. the only reason ndou went down is because he ran right into paulie's punch. it was a "flash" knockout. not a legitmate, "i hurt you" knockdown.

paulie shouldnt say he'll knock him out because no one in their right minds would believe that...thats like how much people believed floyd when he said he'd beat de la hoya so bad (and knock him out) that it would be a "massacre" i didnt believe that talk from floyd...and what do you know...he didnt knockout oscar...it wasnt a "massacre" and he never even knocked him down...same goes for paulie.

i do like paulie though. i think he's a good boxer...he's not a brawler nor will he ever be but what made me a fan was when he went up against cotto and hung in for 12 rounds of punishment. someone like paulie going the distance says something about a guy like paulie...it shows his heart because we all knock cotto can punch you HARD...REALLY HARD.

anyway though...chavez i think needs (for his own sake) not to be compared to his dad and i think they shouldnt be putting him up on a pedestal just because his father was (argueably) one of the greatest mexican fighters of all time.

chavez needs time to grow as a fighter.

do i think he'll be great one day? absolutely (as long as his head doesnt get big like zab judah).

will he be just as good (if not better) than his father? i doubt it. those are some pretty big shoes to fill.

either way i dont hate chavez...i just dont want him to get a big loss at this point in his career and have a negative effect on him or break his spirit.

i could'nt agree more, now all you haters that think you're giving constructive critisicm, this is the way you do it, he's not ready yet, but mabe in a few years he will be. they should keep him out of the ppv's though, and the media does hype him up too much, but that's the media, not him doing it.

exactly...it is the media...i know he doesnt beg the media for the attention and dont blame it on him...

im not mad at him or his team at all...if i was on his team or if i was him i'd be just flowing with it as well...since it is good exposure...

im mad at the commentators...the promoters...and people like that...

as i said...i like chavez jr and think he's going to be pretty great in this sport.

i look forward to watching him as he matures into the great fighter he should be turning into in the future.

Constructive critisism means a person is a hater? Why is it so wrong to want the guy who is supposed to be a pro to take fights that are closer to his skill level?

I don't give a damn who his father is, I am a new'ish boxing fan anyways. I do think it stinks to have to pay for the ****ty fights his team keeps setting up. What the hell does that have to do with his father? Nothing. He isn't fighting guys who ever stood a chance against him, so why should we have to pay to watch the crap?

Chavez Jr has a large fan base already because of his dad and many people want to see him, thats why he is on televised cards. People know he is fighting bums but they want to see him regardless, there are others who dont want to see him but he is obviously bringing in money and thats why he keeps getting on PPV cards.
