Sechew "The Ironhorse" Powell won a wide-decision over Ishe Smith on Boxing After Dark. It was a difficult fight to watch (trust me I was ringside. If you watch the HBO replay, I found it more exciting to talk to the guy next to me about Andre Berto).

After the fight, Lou Dibella told me, "I thought he won easily, but honestly I think he's got to pick up the pace in the future to be more pleasing. I would've liked to have seen Sechew be more aggressive."

That fight was the last Sechew would fight with Dibella Entertainment. If you stink up the show, you won't get any favors from promoters/TV.

What is running! I'm so tired of hearing that.

My definition of a boxer running is when he is hurt and starts dancing around the ring to avoid getting knocked out!

He may have a hard time getting on ESPN2 again, given the bad press they received for his last fight. On the other hand, HBO will shell out millions everytime Gatti fights regardless of how bad he gets his ass kicked.
I agree with you in there but sometimes gettign a title belt and then looking for way to please a crowd is a another story.

They have to balance because every punch they take makes them closer to retirment so not alway pleaseing the crowd is the right way you have to know what type of fight to win and what type of fight you could braw. it very complex as boxing in a business.

And yes, my favourite boxers are come forward guys, but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate defensive skills, and understand that they are an important part of a successful fighters' makeup.

I don't know any defensive boxers who have been the face of boxing, until perhaps Mayweather now. Tyson wasn't shy of throwing a punch was he, and Ali was hit quite a few times in the face if i remember correctly....
As far as I know we weren't talking about defensive boxers we were just talking about boxers vs. brawlers. Ali probably would tell you hisself he should have avoided more of those punches. I have respect for all styles of boxing I just perfer those who use the sweet science to those who just like to come forward and brawl. I really like those who combine both and use both all in the same fight. Using both styles when neccessary is the best approach to me but I will never knock a man's hustle. I will say whether I like it or not but I won't knock it.

people pay to see a fight restricted by boxing rules. As long as the two guys are doing their best to inflict the most damage they can on their opponent, the fight will be crowd pleasing.

In all honesty though, who would you rather be: Cory Spinks or Arturo Gatti?

This is not a tough question. You either want a pretty solid record, world class status, good money, and your brain still in tact.

Or you want to be Arturo Gatti.

I always thought Gatti Fans were brutal. I mean.......they just like to see him bloody.
I'm pretty sure he has brain damage.

By the same token, though, it doesn't matter what you're record is, if you're a stinker in the ring, a promoter has trouble paying you and booking you on TV. Wasn't John Ruiz only making like 300K for HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE fights? Compare that to how much Gatti and Ward made fighting each other...
