Boxing is more popular in Britain than it is in the US. And the US has a LOOONG lineup of sports stars. The culture is different. No athlete in the US has ever reached Posh&Becks levels of fame/obsession. There is no US-equivalent to Fleet Street.
My guess is that boxing is the number 3 (?) sport in the UK. Behind football (soccer) and dental care dodging.
In the US, boxing has become largely relegated to a fringe sport. You have (US) football, basketball, baseball, NASCAR, hockey, golf, etc. And MMA has cut into boxing's fanbase. many of the younger fans think MMA is more interesting.
In short there are as many sports in Britain as there are in the US.
Holy **** that is lame. Cricket? Tennis? Soccer? Somebody cue the music for "I'm proud to be an American" lol. Brits really need to start looking into playing American Football.Comment

He's got no chance of becoming a household name in the US
The US public , rightly or wrongly, have limited interest and knowledge of things that don't come from their shores. Other countries have slightly more knowledge of American topics, music, films some sports people, because
the US has more influence in these areas..
Name a French or German pop star..Abit tricky..
I have limited knowledge of things that go on in South America, or Asia.
Hatton has little chance of becoming famous in the US because the US public are not interested....I'm not saying that is wrong.
If a Pop Star like Robbie Williams who signs a $80 million record deal is Unknown , as Posh and Becks barely register on the radar..Hatton has no chance....
But who gives a toss..Hatton will earn enough money to live comfortably..Comment

But Floyd was smart and his first ppv, and his following ppv's were extremly succesful, and far more succesful than Cotto's.
His first PPV did 350k buys.
How many did Cotto's first ppv do?Comment

Football is the number one sport in Britain, followed by cricket, rugby league and rugby union, boxing is on the third tier of sports popularity along with motor sports (Formula 1), tennis and golf. It's a notch above niche sports such as darts or field hockey but a notch below true mainstream sports like football (far and away the most popular) and rugby.
In short there are as many sports in Britain as there are in the US.
We already play a better and tougher game. Rugby.Comment

How can YOU say that the numbers were good if HBO was disappointed by the the numbers?Comment

What's so funny? That we don't need to dress in suits of armour to bump into each other? I actually like American Football, but it's unwatchable if you're not with friends, unless you really like watching commercials.Comment
