i agree with pretty much everything youre saying here and i have an interesting theory myself
i have an intersting theory regarding even matchups such as this.
obviously as everyone knows the american heavyweight scene is a mess and the eastern bloc guys are really cleaning up and what that is doing is shifting the power of public perception and hype almost exclusively to non-americans
so guys like povetkin, virchis, *****ko are gathering much more serious consideration as world title threats than the young USA fighters. not to take anything away from them cause i think they really are better than the chazz witherspoons but the point is that none of them have really done anything to warrant such serious considerations...
and from a ******** persepective... for one americans cannot just go bet on their favorite fighter without going to vegas or having a bookie... in other countries its no big deal... so in a fight like this, though it is even, povetkin is gonna end up being the favorite because quite simply, he is an undefeated russian and his fans are in position to lay money.... there isnt really any other logic for backing it up.. byrd has virtually every advantage on paper... world class experience, chin, conditioning and boxing skills.... well not power, but he never has had that.
its like a total role reversal from 10-15 years ago when americans were spoon fed and russians had to fight to earn their keep... now were looking at a division where chris byrd, a world champion, needs to beat a guy with 13 fights to get the respect he has already earned... while povetkin, without having beaten a world class fighter is already being coronated as the next big thing...
sorry if my point is not so clear but i think u should get the drift i dont really have the time to break it down any farther or organize my thoughts on it, maybe later...
but i see byrd winning a close but obvious UD... povetkin isnt big enough himself to take advantage of byrds one true weakness.. his physical size
yeah i agree with this, i think povetkin looks ok, but nothing special. i saw chazz witherspoons last fight and he didnt look very good, he has a good jab and thats about it he realy needs to improve in the next 1-2 years if he is going to make any impact.
