A KO is when the fighter fails to beat the count or the ref waives off the count when he thinks the fighter needs immediate medical attention. It's usually the result of the fighter being hit with severe force.

A TKO is when the ref stops the fight to protect a fighter from taking unnecessary punishment. It is usually applied when the fighter has little or no chance of winning the fight, is failing to protect himself or is being impaired from protecting himself by injury. This can be on the advice of the ringside doctor in the case of a serious cut or other injury, on the advice of the fighter's own corner or on the ref's judgement alone. A TKO is typically the result of an accumulation of punishment, not severe trauma.
    Tszyu-Judah?
    Tarver-RJJ
    Mosley-Vargas 2
    Examples abound...

A TKO is just as likely to be the result of seVere, sudden trauma that the participant hasn't recovered yet. Guy takes a punch. Gets up. Still wobbly. Ref calls it off.

Besides, what does it matter whether it is an accumulation or "severe trauma"?

TKO is a form of KO in my book. They are not seperate.

@ Cletus...your very alone in your method of denial here. Your mincing words...

        how about this definition:
KO & TKO both mean you've been knocked out of the fight early. Being awake or asleep matters not. 90% of KO's are when guys are awake and they cant make the count.

You think Morrison was sleeping or awake when Mercer gave him a Round 5 TKO? Most will agree that Morrison was KTFO...knocked the **** out...get it now?
I agree. basically what a tko mean is that you are about to get knocked out anyway so why not stop the fight.

You're right it can be, which is why I said typically. It's not the case in most of Floyd's TKOs though.

It depends on the nature of the stoppage. Calzaghe still wins a lot of fights by TKO but his power is **** compared to what it was early in his career before his hand issues. Kind of similar to Floyd, I guess.

Gatti was in his mid 30s, had been through several wars and was never very good to start with. He went into the fight clueless, terrified and with no ambition of winning.

You think there's some merit in outboxing Baldomir for a couple of rounds?

yes actually. if he would have kept out boxing boldimer and avoid slugging with him, he would have been the new Unified welterweight champion of the world because boldimer had the title at the time that they were fighting. so dont you think thats some merit?

If thats too confusing: what meds and how many mgs are the pills?

Dont ever say Calzaghe and PBF in the same post again...do you like being **** on or something?

All I saw in that fight was Gatti looking terrified of engaging. He spent most of the fight running away and throwing the occasional arm punch.

Baldomir get's outboxed by all of his opponents until he wears them down. It's only his ridiculous chin that has got him to fighting at world level.

When he's asking for advice on what to do on the day of the fight from a stranger then it's pretty clear. If that's not enough for you, how about the decision to try and box Floyd?

That would be some of that deductive reasoning that you're so keen on, if you didn't notice.

And what are you doing acting like you're the daddy of something? Get back in your basement and STFU.
