To answer the question: for his haters to respect him, he would need to be black and American. Defeating Mayweather will not gain him any respect from some people, although it will win him many new fans!

The negativity against Hatton will always be there, because it has nothing to do with his ability, record or fighting style. Even if he wins his next 17 fights by KO against bigger fighters than himself and retires at 60-0, he will not be respected by certain individuals. Prejudice is ****** - anti-British prejudice is just as idiotic as any other kind of prejudice.

Normal, intelligent boxing fans will have more respect for him if he defeats Mayweather, but the hard-core haters like satori555, Gunstar and !! SiN will never change their opinion of Ricky Hatton no matter what he does.

I know quite a few people who like Joe Calzaghe but don't like Ricky Hatton, myself for one. I might like Ricky more if he would stop the one punch and hold thing he does. He's a professional now, and should have stopped that in the amateurs. He also should stop saying he is exciting, because what he does is not. I also wish he would move up to 147, so I actually do like him a lot more for moving up to fight Floyd, and hopefully he stays put now that he has moved up a second time. So in short, if Ricky changes just a couple of things, he'll be okay in my book.

Which should be something like smother Mayweather, without holding, and keep his punches short and hard. Not looping like hey sometyimes tend to do. I take it you never seen the fight or even know of Magee outside of boxrec, Hatton was young and was caught coming forward and down he went but he wasn't hurt, you are gonna have your fair share of these moments if you fight like hatton does "like a man"

Sorry Welter, but Oscar De La Hoya is still one of the best fighters in the world. Floyd's win over Oscar is the best win by anyone this year.
