Statistics can be deceving. Twelve in a row...but to who? Let's see:

    Errol Sa***ovski 4-10
    Gary Winmon 25-12-
    Sedreck Fields 19-20
    Dennis McKinney 25-27
    Craig Tomlinson 23-14
    Julius Francis 23-14

Yeah, he knocked most of these chumps out...but what did he really prove doing it? Maskaev may have been solid once but he's aged. Not to mention his level of opposition has been less than stellar for the past few years. I wouldn't use his record to show he has solved any of his flaws- he just avoided them being obvious by taking on journeymen.

I think that Maskaev is gonna take this fight very seriously and train for the fight of his life. However, the big question in my mind is; what kind of shape will Peter come into this fight? Will he be the fighting weight he came in for Toney I or Toney II? This will be a huge factor IMO...

Its not all that impressive to beat a fat roided up James Toney. If anyone saw leaked copy of james last fight, the guy is real out of it. He's horrible and nearly got beat by a journeyman.

Why did you choose the six worst? He chose those first six because he was making a comeback, and wanting to get his confidence back.
Statistics can be presented in a deceiving way...

The next six wins of those 12 straight wins were against better opponents:

          Hasim Rahman 41-5 (TKO 12)
          Sinan Samil Sam 24-2
          Dave Defiagbon 21-0
          Livin Castillo 12-2 (TKO 3)
          Quinn Navarre 30-12-1 (KO 3)
          Peter Okhello 18-4

Defiagbon was undefeated, and Rahman was WBC champ.

I'm not saying Maskaev is a Wladimir Klitschko level fighter, but he's no bum, and he has a good chance to beat the strong but fat, slow and dumb Sam Peter.

Yes, I chose the worst six because you said he won 12 straight and that was showing he overcame his flaws. The Rahman fight was a struggle...so that's five solid wins and he showed his age quite badly in a few of those. 30-12 is not a great record...I wouldn't be too proud of beating a journeymen in Navarre - so that's four solid wins in my book....not twelve...and he didn't look as sharp in some of those fights.

My point is that I think Oleg is a good guy, was an underrated boxer...but that age has reared its ugly head and he's just fought his way to where he is tooth and claw...but that Peter is going to give too much youthful pressure for Maskaev to keep his belt.

While I would agree the Maskaev is slightly underrated I would say he does in fact have a questionable chin. That combined with the fact that Peter has some serious power does not bode well for Maskaev.

Plus, and I realize that perception is not reality, but it really did seem like Maskaev wanted no part of this fight. I could be wrong, but that brings into question how hard he is going to train for it.

I got to go with Peter in a TKO

Thats because the guy with the belt always gets 70/30. And peters camp wanted 50/50. Oleg better be getting 70/30 if he agreed to this contract. Theres no way in hell he should take 50/50. If I was a boxer, I would want what the rules call for to make the most money win or lose. He deserves his 70/30 purse.

Unless Peter shows up fat, this fight is a wank-fest, easy KO win for Peter

I mean I didn't expect a "Hell Yeah!" out of him, Maskaev is a very humble guy.. but his voice really lacked the confidence
but it could also b, becasue he is such a humble guy, that he's thinking, "i've never fought peter before, we'll see what i can do when he's standing in front of me "

maskaev has a chance in this one, the new "improved" sam peter still stands in front of u to be hit, and maskaev has the better skills. maskaev is old but i don't think he's as shot as james toney is right now. both guys are coming in after long layoffs, i wouldn't be surprised if both of them, or at least peter, doesn't come in shape
