What by beating Marg and winning the belt? Your hilarious.Comment

Marg could be a tough opponent for most i'm not doubting that because he seems to have a good chin and is always willing to fight BUT he just lacks what most have and that is talent. Even you have to admit he is slow as hell his punches are wide looping shots and are just waiting to be countered. It's fine if you believe he could beat Floyd but in my opinion he has absolutely NO chance.Comment

You could nit pick at every one of those people's career. Jones rarely fought anyone in their prime. Mayweather only fights nobodies or out of prime people. Oscar started losing when he started fighting real contenders. Holyfield lost to many fighters and looked embarrassing at times.Nard caught tarver at the right time, that significant weight drain had a drastic impact on him just like it did on Roy Jones when they 1st fought. Taylor was unproven when they fought and still is questioned even to this day. Nard defeat to the hands of taylor hurt his legacy even though I felt he won the 1st match. And That record title defenses is real suspect, their are previous thread here about that title defense. He fought a few people multiple times and a bunch of nobodies. He also has wins over a blown up Delahoya and a blown up trinidad and now a blown up Wright. He is a great fighter and things he is able to do at 42 are remarkable but he isn't better than Roy Jones , Floyd Mayweather, Oscar, and barely Holyfield.
But the nit picking at Hopkins is "he fought everyone but only when they changed weights and he won?". That isn't much of an argument there.Comment

these points are nit picking and playing monday morning quarterback... nard was not a big favorite of any of those guys, if he was a favorite at all...tarver is the last guy that should be making excuses after the **** he gave RJ...Nard caught tarver at the right time, that significant weight drain had a drastic impact on him just like it did on Roy Jones when they 1st fought. Yes and no. Compete, yes I'll give them that but only Lewis and Vitali. I think Wlad would get knocked out too much to keep getting top fights.1. Wlad, Lewis and VK could have competed with heavyweights of any era and held their own.
These giants are also athletes, gifted with hand speed, reflexes, strength and crushing power. They would have made for difficult fights for Holmes, Ali, Louis and Patterson. Not saying they would have won, but it would not have been a cake walk to beat them. In addition to their size, they have unique styles that maximizes their natural advantages, using their height, reach and jab.
Also, I don't think either Vitali or Lewis could be champions in the great Clay, Foreman, etc era.
Compete? Yes. Win? No.
A better three names and statement for you to post would have been "Bowe, Holyfield, and Tyson in their primes could compete in any era at any time. Having a series of wars and title exchanges time after time"
That would be a much more accurate statement.Last edited by Lance Uppercut; 07-23-2007, 12:40 PM.Comment

1) once and for all, Roy Jones Jr. never beat the man at 175. It does not matter how many pieces of leather and metal he collected. Hence, Tarver, Johnson and Hopkins are NOT undisputed champions.8. Nard’s legacy is one of the greatest in boxing history, far greater than RJ, Oscar, Holyfield or Floyd.
Nard going up to 175 and soundly beating the undisputed champ, Tarver, is one of the biggest accomplishments in boxing history. He jumped two weight classes and beat the undisputed man who beat the man. Thats much more significant than Jones going up and beating a paper champion in Ruiz. At over 40 years olds, he’s barely losing to young undefeated champs(Taylor), he's beating top P4P fighters(Winky) and destroying the undisputed 175lb champ. Not to mention his record title defenses at 160.
2) LOL at the comment on Ruiz, Jones was just as big as Hopkins, after beating Hopkins he moves up in weight, dominates p4p #1 or #2 James Toney, then he moves at 175, beats everyone who is willing to come to US (which unfortunately does not include the true 175 champion).
So far in the story he's done what Hopkins did, with an extra meaningful stop at 168 called James Toney.
ON TOP OF THAT he moves up to HW and collects a belt.
3) Mayweather has more defenses of the true 130 belt, than Hopkins has of the 160 belt (the vacant ibf belt was not very meaningful, you should count when he starts unifying) and after 130...
so point is 8 is CRAPComment
