he landed plenty on toney in the second fight. that version of toney was harder to miss than to hit. peter is very strong but he's not a lights out puncher

Yea he landed on Toney but nothing clean, and flush, most of those where behind the head or on the top of the head, he never really got at Toney's chin, your right though he isn't that one punch lights out type puncher that everyone was billing him to be when he was fighting lesser opponents but he does have knockout power, and I see him taking out Maskaev, because it will more than likely get ugly and turn into a slugfest, especially with both their past, and if they are going to go haymaker for haymaker I'm picking Peter everytime.

      • i doubt maskaev is afraid of peter.. the money isn't right for oleg..he will make a ton more money against vitali then he would against peter for a fight thats just as hard. either will most likely be his last career fight. i'd do the same thing

I don't hate Americans at all. I do think there is a lot of whining coming from some people because non-Americans such as Alcine and Ibragimov are gradually taking all the titles away from US boxers.

American boxers often tend to be overrated and overhyped, regardless of their race. For example, Kelly Pavlik wouldn't have been on the cover of Ring Magazine last month if he was born in any other country, if he fought exactly the same opponents and had the same results. I like him, he's exciting to watch, but he's never won a title yet. Chris Arreola is now Ring Magazine #10 heavyweight, but Dimitrenko and several others deserve to be there more, but are not Americans. The IBF is going to have an eliminator between Byrd and Brock, but since Wlad has defeated them both during the last year or so, I think something like a Virchis vs Gomez eliminator would be more fair, but they're not Americans.

Foreign fighters of all races take more abuse than they deserve. Harrison wouldn't be ridiculed like he is if he was an American, and neither would Hatton. If Wlad was American he would get lots of publicity and recognition.

He wouldn't get it from me any more than Gerry Cooney did. On the other hand Vitaly is obviously not American but I have nothing but respect for him. My general condemnation of the Heavyweights includes Americans AND foreigners alike. I don't play favorites. Lennox Lewis is an all-time favorite of mine. Is he American?

              • Take a look at the details as to why this is happening, in the latest story ********* just put up minutes ago! People like DiegoFuego have been using the situation as an excuse to hate on poor old Maskaev, but check this out!

It has nothing to do with Maskaev ducking Peter, it has everything to do with fighting between two ruthless boxing promoters - Don King and Denis Rappaport.

if this is a mandatory fight then it shoudlnt matter he just has to sign the contract or lose his belt. the problem with boxing is that there are to many cowards and the true warriors dont get there respect.

                    • Maskaev should take the fight against Peter because he doesn't really have other options to make. He should get a good payday off the Peter fight even when he loses. If Maskaev doesn't sign the fight then he will have the title strip and then he will make less money with lesser known opponents. Either way Maskaev is gonna suffer, might as well take the fight with peter.
