I think I'm going to get a lot of **** for this, but I think the heavyweight division is ****, but I don't think that in relation to other era's, rather to other divisions. No matter when in history i look at it, the smaller guys are always way more skilled and prepared than the big guys who tend to be a lot less active and . people just have that thing where the they need the champion to be the biggest guy so the heavyweight division has to be the most popular and the most hyped.

I would take the smaller divisions in every era, better athletes with better conditioning and better coordinated make better fights, even if a lot of them lack one punch knock out power.

I dont think the current HW division is the worst ever, but than again this is coming from someone who grew up in the 90's and witnessed Tyson's rise to fame. Compared to some era's sure this one in an "overall" aspect is crap but that's just because 3 out of 4 HW champs arent all that great and havent proved much. When you look at the current contenders as well you can probably see that the division is no where near as good as it was in the past. I mean we have a 44 year old Holyfield who would probably give any current champ/contender except Wlad, Peter, and Vilati a run for their money.

Basically it comes down to how many actual current "Good" Fighters there are in a division. The 2 that stand out the most being Wlad and Peter. (Vitali been away too long, lets see a warm up fight first.) When it comes down to it and you compare current HW to any other current Division than I would think and most "Boxing" Fans would probably agree that HW is more towards the bottom of the list.

The damage to his lips and chin was mostly from Lewis' head. He wasn't intentionally billy-goating, but he wasn't going out of his way to keep from it, either, that's for sure. As for allegations of loaded gloves....it's virtually impossible in boxing today. They keep to close watch on that sort of thing. Not to say it is impossible, just the next best thing to it. Lewis won fairly, if in a very lucky way. And the way his glove raked across Klitchko's eyebrow and tore it open would've been impossible to plan deliberately. It was the wrist binding that caught the skin, more than anything else. Klitchko's head was at an odd angle to the blow, and it just turned out the worse for him because of it.

Incidentally, one of the most striking things I notice upon re-watching the fight over and over, is that when Lewis throws the same left-hook/overhand right combination that put so many of his other opponents on the canvas for a 10 count (Rahman, for example), it barely shook Klitchko. The guy's got a granite chin.

        Good literate post.

"As for allegations of loaded gloves....it's virtually impossible in boxing today. They keep to close watch on that sort of thing."

How exactly do they do that? The ref sure doesn't check the gloves in the ring. How do they prevent say a small sharp object from being unobtrusively stuck in the lacing or something?

A few notorious glove-fixing cases that came to light were Panama Lewis in 1983, Angelo Dundee fixing Clay's glove (and now the politically corrected cover up of that incident in their attempt to rewrite history and glorify Clay-Ali - I watched an ESPN film of Clay-Cooper fight wherein they spliced together the rounds in which Dundee did his criminal trick and made it look as though Clay had no additional time between the rounds, and in fact they didn't even say a word about it - and why hasn't Sir Henry Cooper been retroactively awarded the win in that first fight?)

When I was in boxing in NY an old time trainer in NY - a relative of Abe Simon who had fought Joe Louis - told me that it was common knowledge amongst boxing insiders that Joe Louis' gloves were loaded for his second fight with Schmeling.

Wlad spoke about this right after the fight.

This is a boxing forum. If you're going to post **** like this why don't you join a KKK site or something similar. Keep that **** to yourself, I doubt anyone cares what you think anyway.

Why don't you kiss my ass? I wasn't saying anything at all about race, but some of your butt buddies here were. I notice you f ags have nothing to say about some punk here who uses as his signature a picture of a black and a white girl, and the black is saying, "how would you like a poke, baby, you need an interracial baby." - something like that. That's what the ****** uses as its signature. Anyway, i didn't start on about race, but I'll ****ing respond!

Whether he's racist or not, it's his right, just like it's your right to try and get everyone else to jump on the "Let's all hate Werewolf" bandwagon. Personally, I don't know which is worse.

As far as racism goes...most blacks are far more racist than whites. That's been proven over and over again, in studies, surveys, and everything else you can think of. It's just not PC, so it isn't well known.

Also, Werewolf (racist or not) is trying to make the point that blacks are responsible for more crime than whites. Again, racist or not, it's a valid point. The crime stats show a vastly disproportionate minority to white prison population in every state. Yes, it's because they've committed more crimes, not because of their skin color.
