Holmes was very skilled & had a solid chin.
he did have good solid skills and tremendous heart but he never faced anyone with the combination of size skills and power as wlad. shavers was a beast,,,but past his prime and a very inaccurate puncher with no jab, I just cant see how at 210ish lbs he'd have been able to last with lewis or even wlad and vitali. thats a lot of weight and strength to overcome

Even as a huge Wlad supporter I can admit it's a joke. Too much parity and no dominance. Hopefully Wlad can change that.

But you never know with his chin.

In fact, I can't remember a time when people weren't bitching about the heavyweight division. They were saying the same **** back when Tyson was marching through the heavyweights, and then unified...."He wouldn't be able to do this back in the day, he'd be KO'd by (insert legendary heavyweight here) in the first minute of the fight".

Well, I thought it sounded silly then, and do now, too. In fact, this may be one of the least "****ty" divisions I remember. It's not the best, but certainly not what everyone is claiming. I think that, on any given day, there are at least a dozen fighters who could beat any one of the other dozen at the toss of a coin. The only one who's probably not going to get beaten any time soon is Wlad Klitchko (or his brother...I really don't think there's anyone alive who can KO that guy, and you can't beat him any other way), and there's almost always been a single ruling power in the divion. Foreman, Ali, Tyson, Lewis, etc.

The only thing that bothers me about the heayweight division is the lack of activity. Other than that, I like it just fine. Not as good as some of been, maybe, but not bad at all.

this post makes the most sense..we only remember the good fights and fighters from the past..every era has had a lot of sub par crap

Pretty good post, tho, as I said, I think the heavyweight division is better than ever. I definitely agree with you about the lack of activity. Such a long time goes by between fights nowadays, especially for most of the top heavyweights. I guess it's because they can make so much money in one fight they don't need to fight more often.

to me the heavyweights are the biggest joke. the talent there is extremely low, the fighters keep getting bigger and bigger and with these huge ass guys fighting the fights get less and less competitive.

no action, sloppy fights, no one is even a dominant force in the heavies. or at least thought to be a dominant force. and the thing is there is no sign of it getting any better anytime soon.

the only guy who is exciting is a wild swinging brawler, sam peter, and i can't stand watching him swing away like some drunk fool. his best shots are to the back of peoples heads.

wlad is ok, but as far as i'm concerned he's turning into a ruiz with all his holding. say what you want, but i just want to see a fight where wlad doesn't initiate every clinch. even against brewster he was holding for no reason, he wasn't in danger in any time in that fight, so why hold unnecessarily??? that **** gets old after two seconds.

at least when hatton holds he's using it to gain and angle to throw an uppercut, he doesn't just stop fighting and clinch................

the heavyweight division is trash and right now bad for boxing, the more they keep HW fights off tv the better chance boxing has to keep or gain fans...........................because right now it's doo doo..........

the whole division is ****, has nothing to do with black americans or anything. as a true boxing fan i want to see quality fights not what they have been giving us. and as a true boxing fan race, country, etc. don't mean ****, i want good fights. i want my entertainment value, whether i'm buying a ticket to the fight or i'm buying ppv, or i watching a heavyweight fight on cable, if i'm watching a fight i want it to be exciting or at the very least entertaining. not what they're giving us now.

spread out with that bullmess. there is more to boxing than country and color..........................

                    the whole division is ****...

                    _______

Like hell it is. The problem is that when Wlad faces world champion fighters like Byrd and Brewster, for instance, he is so far superior to them that it is not even vaguely competitive. It is like a man fighting a boy. There has never before been a heavyweight who was so dominant.

Wlad's one serious and totally legitimate loss was to Corrie Sanders - and Corrie Sanders was incredibly under-rated. He could have been the best of them all. But Wlad is learning and improving all the time, and he is now much better than he was then.
