Povetkin's next fight may be in the US

Today the Russian news media is reporting that Povetkin's next fight will be in the USA.

The reports state it may be on the undercard of Pavlik vs. Taylor or Maskaev vs. Peter, and so be televised by HBO. They also speculate that the opponent may be Lyakhovich or a young American heavyweight prospect.

Would like to see that. The main event I feel will be great because Pavlik will force Taylor to fight, but adding Povetkin would be a nice showcase for the Russian fighter in the US.

This would be a brilliant idea by HBO--showcase perhaps the best young HW prospect on the undercard to a terrific main event on WCB. The idea is so brilliant--especially if a ex-champ like Sergei is the opponent--that I will not believe it until it's signed...

And DiBella would have to take a nice check for giving up the co-feature slot on a card he is promoting--I'm sure he wants Berto to get that slot.

HBO mentioned Povetkin as a top prospect in their Calzaghe vs. Manfredo broadcast. Since then he's won two more fights - a second round KO, and a UD where he won every round - so they may be taking an interest in him.

I hope Joe Mesi's on the list of possible opponents; I wouldn't mind seeing Mesi 'burst this bubble.'

No, he would hurt Mesi, maybe re-injure him in a bad way. I would like to see Povetkin vs. Eddie Chambers, Malik Scott, or Kevin Johnson, or a veteran such as Rahman or Barrett.

I haven't really seen any live footage of Povetkin. He surely had an impressive amateur career, and seems to be aquitting himself nicely to the pro game. But is he ready for a guy like Sergei who has already fought some tougher competition?

Lyakhovich was never really all that good, he became a bit overrated after his win over Brewster. Povetkin would KO Lyakhovich. Clips from all of Povetkin's fights are on YouTube.

I'm not diagreeing with you but in today's HW crop I think that a win over Brewster is about as legit as you can get (he's nothing special but he owns a win over the clear favorite of the division). Sure it was really disappointing that Lyakhovich got KO'd by Briggs but he was about 15 seconds away from surviving and hence winning.

Sergei is a rugged mother****er. I'd pick Povetkin but I'd be worried. I'd prefer Malik Scott, though I don't know if his handlers are willing to cut the leash like that.
