The fight could go on PPV both sides of the Atlantic. HBO sells the rights to Sky or Setanta who then sell it to the public. It all makes up part of the same available TV revenue. So yes, Hatton's ability to sell the fight in the UK is a relevent issue when discussing purses.
That aside, he had HBO viewing figures of 1.3m for the Urango fight, 1.8m for Collazo and whatever for Castillo. That would indicate that there's plenty of people interested in watching him in the US, even more so after Saturday.
Do you really need it explained as to why HBO would put a fighter who's new to the US market on for free in his first couple of fights? Look up the term "loss leader".
