Hatton's purse was $5 million, with additional PPV bonuses from the UK broadcast.

Hatton is a much bigger draw than Calzaghe and add to that the most Golden Boy in Boxing and you set the scene for a major outdoor event.
Again: you may get 20-25 mil from the live gate. Go crazy and say FORTY mil. That is relatively low compared to the PPV revenues of a megafight.

PBF-ODLH (while an aberration) did ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY million in PPV revenues.

There are alot of other considerations involving fights.

Casinos pay substantial site fees for a fight. For example, an Oscar fight could garner upwards of $10 million. There is a reason why you see the vast majority of fights affiliated with casinos. The casino-hotel pays a fee, draws the crowd, hikes up the room rates, packs out the restaurants, flows millions through the sports book, and triples the table minimuns for the weekend.

Have you ever been to Vegas on a fight weekend?

5 pm is an unappealing time. That is why you see the ring walk at 8pm in Vegas, and 10-11pm in Atlantic City. The networks know what time maximizes viewership. In a big fight, please remember that MANY of the buys are from commercial establishments (bars, titty joints, etc). Guys aren't filing into Scores or Cheetah's at 5pm on a saturday.

You may dispute this, buy what I have stated is fact.
Do you honestly think that bars would neglect to purchase the fight on the basis that is on at 5 in the evening?

I agree, but I'm of the contention that, for Oscar, it wouldn't really be about the money. He has the money. But he doesn't have the experience of fighting in front of a 90,000 fan live gate. A fight at 2am in front of 90,000 fans would be a once in a lifetime experience. And the money would be there from gate reciepts, sponsorship and of course the PPVs. Oscar would make close to his usual money, but he'd have done the big live fight.

No offence, but the idea that putting a PPV on at 5PM wouldn't effect sales is absurd. A lot of people aren't even home from work by 5.

Yeah. That statement was unfortunate. That wasn't his best moment.

                      Dude,

I am trying to explain the realities of the American TV/commercial system to you and you are holding on to a very ****ty position.

Again: Saturday afternoon is a TERRIBLE time for a PPV boxing match. It would DEFINITELY adversely impact sales.

Give that validity, or toss it in the trash.
