There is a reason that fights are scheduled at the time that they are : to maximize viewership.
I feel you about the time but before the scheduling issues shouldn't we consider the fact that they are two weight classes apart and neither one of them seems capable of comfortably moving towards the other.

I don't care if it's a non-traditional time, here in Britain we have to watch fights at 5 in the morning so I don't see why 5 in the evening would be a problem. Any impact on PPV buyrate would be minimal.

I heard today on a national radio station (sports) over here that Golden Boy Promotions are looking for an option to co promote this fight at Wembley Stadium towards the end of the year.

The fight would be a catch weight contest with Hatton coming in at around 147lbs and DLH at around 150lbs?

Seems to back this story up some what.

No figures were mentioned but it was suggested that Hatton is on the verge of signing some form of US contract with Golden Boy Promotions, hence the support and ring walk of Barrera who is apparently part of the Golden Boy team?

30 million pounds is sixty million dollars. Be serious.

England in six hours ahead of East Coast time, and nine hours ahead of LA. Do you think Oscar is goijg to fight in England at 2am so that the fight is at 5 in the afternoon in his biggest market?

It doesn't matter what stadium you put a fight in. A huge fight gets the vast majority of the revenues from PPV. Why would Oscar forego his PPV base?

Isn't Hatton under contract with HBO still?
This is very true, plus DLH is the start not Hatton. DLH could sell out bigger arena's in the states but there's a reason he fights in Vegas.

No, the weight concerns me less if Hatton has the balls.

PBF walked in at 148 vs Oscar. Hatton's weight last night? 149.

If Hatton really wants it, it's just two guys fighting.... weight be damned.

He couldn't sell out large live gates, it just isn't done in the US any more. IN the UK however live outdoor stadium boxing is very much alive, as evidenced by the 35,000 fans in attendance of a very mediocre card featuring Calzaghe and Manfredo. Hatton is a much bigger draw than Calzaghe and add to that the most Golden Boy in Boxing and you set the scene for a major outdoor event.

Noooo. The effect on PPV buyrate is substantial.

There are alot of other considerations involving fights.

Casinos pay substantial site fees for a fight. For example, an Oscar fight could garner upwards of $10 million. There is a reason why you see the vast majority of fights affiliated with casinos. The casino-hotel pays a fee, draws the crowd, hikes up the room rates, packs out the restaurants, flows millions through the sports book, and triples the table minimuns for the weekend.

Have you ever been to Vegas on a fight weekend?

5 pm is an unappealing time. That is why you see the ring walk at 8pm in Vegas, and 10-11pm in Atlantic City. The networks know what time maximizes viewership. In a big fight, please remember that MANY of the buys are from commercial establishments (bars, titty joints, etc). Guys aren't filing into Scores or Cheetah's at 5pm on a saturday.

You may dispute this, buy what I have stated is fact.
