De La Hoya, known as The Golden Boy, has told friends it is one of his last ambitions to fight Hatton at Wembley before he retires. And Hatton, who is being supported in Las Vegas by pal Wayne Rooney and a host of Premiership stars, is desperate to add another big name to his list of conquests.

Manchester City fan Hatton, who received a message of support from the club's potential new owner Thaksin Shinawatra yesterday, is quickly becoming one of boxing's most sought-after opponents.

Negotiations have not yet begun but it is thought that the fight would take place in September or October at welterweight, with Hatton moving up a division and De La Hoya moving down one.

Hatton's all-action style has already turned him into the leading boxing attraction in Britain and he is an outstanding ambassador for the sport.

But if he beats Castillo tonight and then inks a deal to face De La Hoya, it will turn him into one of the country's sporting superstars. Hatton is already one of the biggest draws in world boxing and nearly 10,000 British fight fans, including Rooney, Rio Ferdinand, Joe Cole and Wes Brown, have travelled to Las Vegas to see tonight's fight at the Thomas and Mack Center.

Rooney visited Hatton at his gym off the Las Vegas strip here on Wednesday and will carry Hatton's IBO world title belt into the ring.

"I'm really buzzing about it all because Ricky has become a great pal," said Rooney. "It's the first time in Vegas for me and Coleen and we are looking forward to the fight immensely.

"I'm incredibly proud of what Ricky has done and also to carry his belt into the ring. I know it will be one of the most fabulous experiences of my life."
There are so many lies and holes in this story that it is almost laughable. Scratch that. It IS laughable.

30 million pounds is sixty million dollars. Be serious.

England in six hours ahead of East Coast time, and nine hours ahead of LA. Do you think Oscar is goijg to fight in England at 2am so that the fight is at 5 in the afternoon in his biggest market?

It doesn't matter what stadium you put a fight in. A huge fight gets the vast majority of the revenues from PPV. Why would Oscar forego his PPV base?

Isn't Hatton under contract with HBO still?

Five hours ahead of Eastern, and yes, a 2am fight would not be too exceptional. Kostya Tszyu fought at that time.

Oh but thirty million pounds wouldn't happen in a million years. I could see Hatton making ten million quid from it though.

Why would the fight being on at 5 in the afternoon be a problem?

What mythical weight class are they fighting at? DLH hasn't been below 154 since 2001. Hatton didn't look very convincing at 147 so I dont see how he fights at 154. I think if it did happen DLH in a slaughter at 154. If they fight at 147 it might be interesting because DLH would be so weight drained Hatton probably would be the stronger man.

It would have to be at 147 or a catchweight.

There is no possible way that Hatton takes a fight at a catchweight above 147. If it was a catchweight I imagine it would be bewteen 140-47 to give Hatton a more decided even ground.

He might not have the choice though. This is De La Hoya we're talking about. And honestly I'm sure he'd take the fight for the ten million pounds he would likely make.

That Hatton-Tszyu fight was not a huge fight in the USA. Oscar Delahoya is the biggest American fighter. HUGE effin' difference, champ.

                  Dontcha think?

Do you foresee crowds gathering in LA at five in the afternoon?

Of course he has a choice. Why take a fight that he would surely lose just for money. That does not seem intelligent. There are plenty of more reasonable fights that he could make less money on but have a good chance of winning. Who knows how he would react to a brutal ass whooping.

That is not prime time in the USA. That is a VERY non-traditional time for people to gather to watch a fight.

There is a reason that fights are scheduled at the time that they are : to maximize viewership.
